-World Events The Dow Jones industrial stock average dropped S08 points, the largest in history, on Monday. October 19. Some called it a “crash.” others called it a “meltdown” and others called it “Black Monday.” Whatever it was. it stripped $500 billion from the markett valluc of U.S. securities. President and Mrs. Reagan greeted Pope Paul II when he arrived in Miami to begin a nine-city tour of the United States. a 24-day strike by the NFL players ended in mid-October when the umion capitulated and went to court instead of trying to fight the club owners at the bargaining table. The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco cele- brated its 50th birthday. About 250.000 people jammed onto the bridge for an anniversary- walk across the span. Another 500,000 packed the bridge approaches but were denied access because the engineers feared the span could not support the weight. 4 WORLD EVENTS

Math, and Science to Fine and Industrial Arts. Individual Investigation also opens the door to new areas for some. By offering such a diverse curriculum, students have to opportunity to ex- plore possible career choices or spe- cial interests. A varied student body is the result of the catering to interest. This body, in turn, teaches and learns from one another. Bedford High may be viewed as a continual learning en- vironment where each class is a new chapter. The population in the Bedford City School district at the Senior High lev- el is on the decrease. Predictions for the future estimate that the enroll- ment each year will drop approxi- mately 25 students. This year's gradu- ating class.theclass of 1988. seems to be the largest that Bedford will see in the next twelve years. At this steady rate, the senior class, with 464 stu- dents. has almost 300 more students than this year's first grade class when they graduate. For the time being.
