RETIRING after having A LOT OF CLASS V Originally from Shinnston, West Virginia. Mr. Gene Minor began his career in the Coast Guard. North Ata- lantic weather duty and Air Sea Res- cue in Hamilton. Bermuda, led him to Fairmont State College. He received his Bachelor of Arts here with a major in Biology and minor in General Science. This was followed by a Mas- ters of Education in Science at the University of North Carolina. After one year of teaching in Lorain County Schools. Moody Junior and Bedford High Schools were his workplace for the next 31 years. Finding teaching a most rewarding experience and fun in the early years, Mr. Minor feels it is the time to move on to other endeav- ors and relax. After her birth in Archibald, Ohio, Mrs. Ruth Siegal attended Bowling Green State University for her Bache- lor of Science degree. Her Masters of Arts was earned at Ohio State. Many different assignments were part of her seven years in Monroe, Michigan and 34 years here in Bedford. Enjoying the classroom the most, she continued studying at John Carroll, Indiana University, Cleveland State, Kent State, Stone Hill College in Massachu- setts and The University of Edin- burgh (Scotland). Mrs. Siegal will con- tinue to be busy with her golf game and volunteer work but plans to relax as well. ■ Jm Mr. Joel Deckman, bom in Mal- vern, Ohio, retires for the second time. The first was as a captain in the ROTC Army during his education at Ohio University. Here he received his Bachelor of Science and Masters in Education. He served as teacher, foot- ball and basketball coach, and Guid- ance counselor in various Ohio school systems while studying for his Mas- ters in Administration at Akron Uni- versity. He came to Bedford City Schools 22 years ago and has been both Assistant and Principal at Moody Jr. High as well as Counselor and Assistant Principal at B.H.S.. Mr. Deck- man will “swamp” himself in some business opportunities in Ohio and Florida after retiring. 8 BEDFORD NEWS
