Our school went Oriental as the Friendship Club play Lost Horizons was presented. The scene was the exotic land of Shangri-la where time slows down and life is prolonged. But time sped at a fast pace in Bedford as Thanksgiving swung into view and gave us a chance to show our gener- osity by providing food baskets for needy families. The short Thanksgiving vacation was enjoyed by all students, faculty, and administration. Everyone came back rested, refreshed, and well-fed. After vacation the cheerleaders held the traditional hoop as the mighty Bearcats broke through the ring and bounced into basketball season. As the cork was pulled from our spirit jug, spirit rushed out creating an atmos- phere of excitement. More baskets were made and points were compiled as the season soared on. Our league-leading Bearcats continued to remain on top of the totem pole of teams as the season drew to a fast-paced close. . . . 5

On September sixth Bedford streets buzzed with boosters as our Buck for the Bearcat teams canvassed the area to raise money for our athletic department. This was the kickoff in spirit that prevailed throughout the season. Football games were the highpoint of each week and were attended by the students in rain, sleet, and snow. After the home games, dances were held in our cafeteria; here, after a victory we celebrated, or after defeat, danced our blues away. Homecoming, the climax of the season, will never be forgotten. As the football players walked off the field for the last time, the music of our marching band faded away and football season was over. Our band music was transformed into dance music in girls’ minds as they decided which boy to ask to the Harvest Hop. Soon the night of the dance arrived, and our cafeteria was adorned with emerald decorations, streamers, and pumpkins. Pumpkins! It was Halloween time — time for witches and goblins. But the seniors know it wasn’t a witch or goblin who had fun painting the rock in the park and more fun washing it off ... 4

Tender moments at the Christmas Formal. Closed! School was closed for four whole days as win- ter weather played a trick on Mr. Heskett. Next came Christmas vacation, but there was still excitement and anti- cipation as visions of formals (not sugar plums) danced through girls’ heads. The Christmas Formal finally arrived and fulfilled all expectations. Soft fluffy formals floated like dancing snowflakes over the floor amidst the Key Club decorations. A warm, homey fireplace added to the Christ- mas atmosphere, and the Christmas tree in the center of the floor completed the holiday gaiety. All good things must come to an end, and the Christmas festivities termi- nated as school re-opened. Exams were soon upon us, and it was hard to believe the year was half over. What a way to end January — exams, grades, and a lot more snow. . . Seniors caught in contemplation during government exam. y .
