THE STUDENT CUUHT The Student Court consists of a chief justice, two associate iudges, a clerk, and a bailiff. This year court was held each Monday to try the cases of the previous week. The Student Court functions along with the Student Council and the Monitor System. The monitors report all misde- meanors to the court and the court reports its cases and decisions to the council. This system has proved very satisfactory, as each group is able to criticize and to pass on helpful suggestions to the others. Most of the cases are minor violations of traffic rules and school etiquette such as running in the halls and not removing one's hat. The offenders were usually given sus- pended sentences along with a strong warning. This system has worked excep- tionally well as the court has had no se- cond-time offenders. ln fact, the number of cases reported to the court has been com- paratively small this year, This has been due partly to the fact that the student body has been better informed of the traffic rules, the school etiquette, and partly due to the efficient work of the monitor system, This year the monitors have worked in two shifts. One week the monitors who are council members take charge, the next week those monitors who were picked by the council, but who are not members. Chief lustice ,.................. First Row: Miss Cook, Mary Rorabeck, Lorraine Kanzeg, Dorothy Melichar, Mrs, Stewart. The Palsy On Wednesday afternoon, December 9, 1942, the Friendship Club presented its annual play, much to the high school's en- ioyment. Helen Soltis played the part of Bill Harrington-who had plenty of worries, from the looks of his bald spot. Helen was pretty convincing in her role of father, and we ALMOST would have taken her for a real, live he-rrran! fWell, a man, anyhowl. Oh yes! One of his worries was his wife, Mrs. William Harrington, characterized by lo Grill. Her outbursts of crying added a lot to the comedy of the play, and lo also made a motherly looking mother. By the way, Io, how long did it take you to get the crying down perfect? Peqqy Albrecht played the part of Sadie Buchanan, the sophisticated cousin of Billy Caldwell. PGCJQY has a sophisticated air about her, so her role was also A-1. The whole play could be termed a suc- cess, not only due to the actors, but also to the directors, Mrs. Louise Stewart and Miss Winifred Cook. Miss Morgan was in charge of stage setting, which also is to be complimented. The Mean Brat of 25 was ably por- trayed by Fern Cooper. Fern was going with Tony Anderson, whom she later threw over for Billy Caldwell. Tony Anderson was played by Dorothy Melichar, and we add that she made a handsome young man. Mary Borabeck portrayed Billy Caldwell, who in the end married Grace Harrington tFern Cooperl. The sweet young thing was none other than Lorraine Kanzeg. Lorraine put her part over splendidly-could it be, that she is just naturally that type? Lorraine flbatricia Harringtonl was the victim of Fern's-shall we call them-dirty tricks? As soon as Grace and Tony broke up, Pat and he seemed to strike up a friendship This really burned Grace up, and she im- mediately set out to break them up. But success was not hers, as Pat ended up with the guy . Martha Cross played the part of the fresh taxi driver, very capably. We all liked her fast answers. Francis Patrick O'Flaherty, a friend of Lorraine's was played by Rosemary Ar- nold. Her performance could also be marked down as good.
