To 010' jiriend Crying towels are always in evidence dur- ing a football campaign. We don't have much material this year , the boys are too light , our opponents are all big and strong -these, among others are heard from coaches every- where. One remark by our coach, Mr. Peter B. Kane, in the last campaign stays in our mind even yet. Said Mr. Kane, in the first pep meet- ing, l don't know what our team will do this year - - - the only time they show much enthusi- asm is when l yell 'O.- K. go take a shower'. So what happened? - - our team started out by tak- ing the first game 32-0 and went on to win seven out of nine games. Mr. Kane came to Beaver in i944 as assist- ant coach. ln 1945 he was made head coach and has remained so ever since. During his stay in Beaver Area High School his teams have won 47 games, lost 44 and tied 7. The best records were: 1946-7-1-lp 1948-6-3 CCounty Championsjp 1953-7-2, and 1955-7-2. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, he received his early education in the public schools. During his high school days he became interested in athletics, particularly football. He earned letters in all three major sports in high school. Follow- ing graduation he entered Geneva College at Beaver Falls where, once again, he partcipated in varsity athletics, earning three letters in foot- ball, one in basketball ond one in tennis. In the School of Education at Geneva Mr. Kane majored in the Physical and Social Sciences. He has taken additional work at the University of Pittsburgh. ln addition to his educational and athletic activities he found time to take part in other types of student activities, becoming presi- dent of the Student Council during his senior year. He was given a citation in Who's Who in American Colleges. While his duties as head coach in football and assistant in basketball kept him quite busy after school during most of the year, he is much in evidence each day proctoring traffic in the main hall of the south wing, or supervising en- trances and exits from the cafeteria during the lunch periods. When not engaged in these duties he holds forth in room 207 teaching United States History to five sections of the Junior class. ln class his demands are strict, his standards high, but the quality of his work and the success at- tained by his students iustify the means and at- test to his capabilities as a teacher. His pleasing personality has endeared him not only to his pupils and teams, but to the student body and teachers as well. Mr. Kane is married and the father of two young boys. While he says it will be up to them to decide whether to play football or not, we think he secretly hopes that one or both might carry on his liking for, and ability to play the game. In the search for one whose ability to inspire is incomparable, whose personality attracts people unhesitatingly and whose leadership is outstanding-our thoughts constantly turn to one who fits all these qualifications, and so we proudly dedicate our SHINGAS to our teacher, coach and friend-Mr. Peter B. lPeteD Kane. Class of 1956
