FACULTY Our teachers, who carry on the tradition of our high school's past, work daily to give us the knowledge of years gone by and the training needed for the years to come. In the English department we find Miss Lec Fretwell, our assistant principal, busy with her business English classes, Her students are always eager to have some seeds of knowledge imparted to them. We'll have our spelling words now since you don't need the time to study them, we hear Mrs. Mary Wellman say as we pass room 111. Mrs. Wellman teaches the seniors the do's and don'ts of grammar as well as the Shakespeare's and Chaucer's of Eng- lish literature we have all come to know, even if not to love. Room 110 is the scene of many activities. It is here that Miss Mary Winter teaches her English classes, sponsors the Na- tional Honor Society, and helps coach the annual. This year our school takes on the forward look'l as we initiate many new teachers into our school program. The English department gained Miss Mary Blankenship who has sophomore classes and who also sponsors the annual, and Mrs. Mary McDaniels whose room on the second floor already promises to become a center for English classes. The instruction in ,languages is placed entirely in the hands of three teachers - Miss Katherine Gonano who brings Mexico alive with her teachings of Spanish, Miss Eleanor Jennings whose familiar Jacti gummum in corbula sunt, adds a little variety to the well- loveld tales of Julius Caesar, and Mrs. Margaret Pharr who draws France just a little closer to t e . S. Miss Ruth Bartlett is still producing the best cooks and the finest seamstresses around. All the girls are acquainted with Miss Jean Hamilton, their physical education director. Her stern teaching procedure has proved most successful in making all the girls physically fit. Mr. John Chmara teaches boys' physical education and world history. There goes Mr. Chmara, is the remark made daily by suddenly interested fans of world history. Mr, Bob Hedrick, also new to the high school this year, teaches business math and physical education besides help- ing to coach the football team. Mr. Ivan Repass is the head basketball coach and is the bravest man at school for he also teaches driver training. Our music department is in two sections-vocal, under the direction of Miss Elizabeth Shelton who makes Melody Magic one of the highlights of the year, and instrumental, undeg the guidance of Mr. Robert Wright who has made our band one of which we can be prou . Miss Margaret Honaker, who teaches business math, is one of the two additions to our math department. Also a newcomer is Mr. Millard Young who instructs plane and solid geom- etry. Mr. Robert Perry is still racing his algebra classes to see who can copy down a problem faster. This is also true of his physics classes. Tradition prevails in the science department as we continue to have an outstanding group of teachers in this field. Miss Ruth Smith teaches her biology classes among other things, the importance of knowing the anatomy of a frog. There is enough power in that explosive you're holding to blow up the entire school, is still the gentle reproof Mr. Fanning gives to all his chemistry students. Mr. E. G. Bailey is a very capable biology teacher and is also the bookkeeper of the Athletic Association. Mrs. Edytha Kercher puts the new light and airy art room to good use. Her effectiveness as an art teacher may be measured by the many excellent drawings in her room. Mrs. Ker- cher also teaches English. How now, brown cow ? can be heard outside Mrs. Mary Dean's speech class as she makes an effort to impress upon her students the importance of 'proper enunciation. The National Forensic League and the National Thespian Troupe are also under the leadership of Mrs. Dean, Miss Henrietta Bruce and Mrs. Virginia Smith use proper teaching measures to encour- age more speedy and efficient typing. Many a careless typer has been helped by the invaluable advice of these two teachers. Miss Mary Parmesano teaches business students typing and shorthand and takes an active part in all the activities of the school. Miss Louise Light enlightens her students in the subject of sociology and economics and provides a very interesting course for all who are required to take it. The South has never lost a battle when Mr. Howard, an American history teacher and the football coach, begins the study of the Civil War. Now sophomores, watch closely how to use the card catalogue. Every year a new group of sophomores is instructed in a special course on library usage and book care. The little lec- ture is given by our librarian, Mrs. Virginia Foglesong, who makes it a point to guard every book in the library with utmost care. Our Bible classes were in for a treat this year when they found their new teacher, Miss Carolyn Johnson, Miss Johnson's room is always open for guidance and counseling, and quite a few people profit from the help she gives daily. The Bible Club and morning devotions are also Linder the watchful eye of Miss Johnson.

Mr. Lambert Arrington is our new principal, but he is really no new-comer to our school. He served as a coach on the faculty of Beaver High School from 1943 to 1950. He returned as principal this year, a job he has held in other parts of the county. Already he has made an impression on all of us who have come in contact with his com- petent leadership. In the little time he has been with us as our chief executive he has proved himself an able and Well qualified man, capable of handling the duties connected with his job. Mr. Arrington has Won wide popularity among the students, showing vvholehearted in- terest in each of us. Another quality We all admire is his ever-present smile and his natural friendliness toward everyone. His day is never too busy to prevent his Walking down the hall to mingle with the students.
