The economy and increasing pop' ularity ofa permanent design finally won a favorable decision over the old idea of varied styles for each class. A committee consisting of students faculty alumni and the school board was chosen to select a suitable design. The contract and drawing presented by the L, C Balfour Company of Attleboro Massachusetts, was accepted in March, l94O Orders were then placed at Kunsf man's, the local representative, The standard ring was designed to in' corporate the history of Beaver and the idea of education in a beautiful setting The lndian head of old King Beaver on the left shank and Fort Mclntosh on the opposite side represent our town s histor ical past O the bezel of the ing Beaver High School andthe class num- erals were engraved. The crest blending the torch of learning the Pennsylvania keystone and our high school B pro' tects an onyx stone. What a horruble thought' She and I agreed that such prumutuve methods should be abolushed If I hadn t left the unsude of that doll un tume I mught not be here to wrute thus now for no sooner dud I get out than ut was taken away and she was out of my Iufe forever One tume I was nearly kulled whule vusutung the strangest room un the buuldung where long narrow glass obuects kept me dodgung The aur was posutuvely nauseatung and thus room was also the scene of many other unusual ex peruences experuments and exclamatuons The day that I Dangerfueld was trapped there I heard repeated several tumes Duffucult7 Not at all clear thunkung thats what we re after When I caught sught of some puckled worm specumens I wuggled ambutuously for safety and to my great uoy found myself un a lovely smellung room where pretty feet kept rushung around and the gurls belongung to the feet occasuonally dropped me a daunty tudbut Undoubtedly thus was my favorute room from then on Near the end of my last year my lufe was completely changed Durung the four years un whuch I had wandered from one place to an other un Beaver Hugh School one questuon preyed unceasungly on my mund lt was the one I have heard on the lups of nearly all my class mates After Hugh School What? I - 1 - - 11 11 rl! 7'l lll' llll May Day, the colorful and glamorous highlight of the girls' physi- cal educational program was observed tor the third successive year on the north lawn ot Beaver High School, May l9, l94O, Senior girls, dressed in dresses ot pastel shades, led the procession- al, and formed the court around the throne, Betty Glass, chosen by the student body as the queen of May, then appeared, dressed in white satin and wearing the maroon robe used previously by the two other queens. Making an impressive picture with the queen, her train bearers, Ross and Richard Crumrine, flower girl, Carol Jan Lais, ring bearer, Dick Smith, and Ceorge Reed as scepter bearer, followed. Six attendants, Jane Barrett, maid ot honor, Mary Lou Mcl:all, Martha Brown, Ruth Dobson, Sally McRoberts, and Mary K. Myers, formed the tinal part ot the processional. In the interlude between the processional and the dances the Queen was crowned by the maid of honor and presented with the scepter. To gain the queen's favor as well as provide entertainment for everyone, many girls contributed a variety of dances. The beautiful hoop dance and the much acclaimed Stunters' Act, which added gayety to the event, were originated by the girls themselves. Contrasts of rhythm and color were presented in the Scarf Dance, Con- flict, and the Czechoslovakian Folk Dance, Farmers and farmerettes joined in a barn dance and the latest steps were demonstrated by the school's jitterbugs. The lovely and majestic May Pole Dance ended the gala pageant. Ida Burton and Evelyn Townsend accompanied the program on the Hammond Electric organ. Under the supervision of Miss Carnelly, the girls' QYm classes caree fully planned and carried out this, the most colorful event of spring.
