The Student Council saw the first year in our new high school as a year of challenge. '59-'60 was cited as the year in which the foundations and programs of a good and successful student gvernment and high school should and must be laid. Therefore, the programs of the Council were keyed to reach not an immediate goal, but establish a clearcut path to greater achievements. It is with pride that we look back over the year. Handbooks were published, activity cards distributed, and National Education Week reached new heights under the direction of Student Council. By for the most successful school dance of the year was the Big Ape affair which the student council sponsored.

Our successes have been due we feel, to the co-operation between the entire student body and the faculty. Our President, Dennis Smith, was elected district chairman of the Student Council: he appointed .Ioan Gantt secretary. This is the first time Beaufort High has been so honored. Dennis proved himself an ex- cellent leader, inspiring us with his perserverance and hard work. We sincerely hope that we have in some part helped to inaugurate a program that will enable the future Student Councils to build an even greater Beaufort High.
