Beaufort High School February 13, 1959 Mr. Bill Dufford Newberry College Newberry, S. C. Dear Mr. Dufford: Although you are doing college work this year, we ap- preciate your being a booster of Beaufort High sports. Per- haps you would like to hear of the outstanding season our team displayed. Despite our team's being small and inexperienced, they held the mighty North Augusta Yellow Jackets to only a 6- point win. With one game behind them, they went into the next with more enthusiasm and winning spirit. They played the Berkeley Stags, but be as it may, they lost 7-13. This we are now proud of, for the Stags only lost 2 games their entire season. NOW IS THE TIME FOR THE TEAM TO SHOW! With our defense at its best we overran Walterboro to an easy 13-6 victory. Then came our thorough shellacking of the Wade Hampton Red Devils. It was a very sweet victory for the players, coaches, and fans of Beaufort. The final score was 33-7. Our homecoming came earlier this year than was ex- pected. October 10th was the scheduled date and the team was ready. They gave a great show beating the Summer- ville Greenwave 6-0. Next the Wave clashed with the St. Andrews Rocks. Despite the size, speed, and experience of the Rocks, our Tidal Wave tied with a 6-6 score. Happy over this game, they went into the next ready to tear up the Moultrie Generals. The game see-sawed back and forth giving us only a 7-O win. The Beaufort Tidal Wave marched through its seventh straight game without defeat as it easily trounced the Ridge- land Tigers 13-0. Our whole school is proud of our football team. They really showed the spirit and all-round good sportsmanship throughout the season. I hope you feel the same pride in our team as I do when I go through my scrapbook of football clippings. I know you'll ioin me in giving fifteen rahs for the 1958 Wave. Sincerely, Linda Powell - Sports Editor When the great scorer comes to mark against your name, He'Il write not 'won' or 'lost'p buthow you played the game.
