It is the story of improvement, growth, and greatness. Ours is a school with a glorious past, on whose foundations we are building a still greater future. Beaufort High School: The nineteen hundred fifty-nine BEAUFORTONIAN has tried to reflect your greatness, it is a tribute to you. You became an AA school this year. Although you were constructed in nineteen hun- dred twenty-six to house two hundred twenty students, now with your new wings flanked by pre-fabs your overflow capacity is eleven hundred. You rank among the top two hundred schools in the nation on the basis of Merit Schol- arship semi-finalists' positions. You have kept pace with the space age by science exhibi- tions and physics taught on film. Approximately one-tenth of your students are learning under an acceleration program. You have a strong administration and a sound guidance department. Your teaching staff is comparable with the best in the state of South Carolina. You have also excelled in a program of physical fitness, and it was for you, Beaufort High, that we won the state track title for two consecutive years and the lower state girls AA basketball trophy. Your true greatness, however, lies in your intangibles. You have molded into our characters leadership, scholarship, sportsmaship, and developed us into young manhood and womanhood worthy of you. On the division pages of the nineteen fifty-nine BEAUFORTONIAN, we have repro- duced sketches of the new school building now under construction at Mossy Oaks. Your spirit shall permeate those halls, for when we enter them we shall take with us our pride in your greatness. There we shall realize our final goal-A Greater Beaufort High.
