UI' QQFLGJQF5 Standing, Left to Right: Hope McLeod, Head Cheerleader Caroline McLeod, Hilda Gay. Top of Ladder: Sandi Long Standing on Ladder, left to right: Linda Powell, Nancy Rogers In the field of competitive sports, we have proved ourselves time and time again to be full of spirit and energy and the will to win. XVe have played and cheered with spirit and enthusiasm, whether we were out on the field ourselves or yelling the team on from the bleachers. And, finally, we have been not only great winners but great losers. XVe have held our heads as high in defeat as in victory, though our hearts were not so light. Through defeat and victory, through many touchdowns, baskets and track meets, we have learned a great Competitive Spirit on the Ath- letic Field. Alfliifzcd

The 1957 Beaufort Tidal Wave football team ended the season with a record of six wins, one loss, and three ties. The loss was a 7-6 affair to VVade Hampton during the season, and in a con- ference playoff the Tidal Wave and Wade Hampton tied 6-6, but the Red Devils won on the Montana System. The game goes in the record books as a tie. This Beaufort team had no really large boys, but almost all of the starters were about the same size. Team speed was good and the team de- fense was exceptionally good. Only one team. Summerville. managed to gain as much as 100 yards on the ground. On the other hand, the Beaufort offense rolled up more than 100 yards rushing in every game except the first, a 0-0 tie with North Augusta. A strong mnning game was the feature of the VVave,s offense with passing used only sparingly. Doug Cappelmann and Butch Polk .led the way on the ground with Shorty McAlhaney and Ray Williams hitting a good percentage of the few passes they needed to throw. The forward wall, although not exceptionally large, was exceptionally fast, and downfield blocking was good. The ends were not great pass receivers but were good blockers and did a fine job on defense. Beaufortls football record for the last seven years now stands at 48 wins, 22 losses, and three ties with three conference championships. Dur- ing this seven-year period the Tidal XVave has never finished below second in its district or con- ference. joofdaf geauforf
