THE CAPTAIN Commander C.R. JENNETTE, of 1320 Spencer Avemie, New Berne, ] orlh Carolina, was born in j ew Berne on 12 March 1916. He was graduated from New Berne High School, and North Carolina Slate college at Raleigh, N. C. He began his Naval career in 1941 in the V-7 Officer Candidate program at Northwestern University, and received his commission in June of the same year. He served in both ihe Atlantic and Pacific Oceans durini; tlie war, and saw action in the invasion of Okinawa, while aitached to the U.S.S. FACILITY (AM 233); he was awarded ll:e Bronze Star for successful rescue operations at dusk while under severe enemy air attack , at Okinawa, 6 April 1945. Since the war. Commander Jennelte has ser ' ed as Execu- tive Officer aboard the U.S.S. ( .OMPTON, and as Spc iai Services Officer aitached to ihe staff of the Commandant, Fiflh Naval District. In August ot 1952 he assumed command of the U.S.S. BEATTY. Commander Jennette is no stranger to Mediterranean waters. This current cruise is his third to this area since the end of World War II.
