World Affairs Club The purpose of the World Affairs Club is to further the understanding of world affairs and promote discus -sion. Debate Club In a society which is unfortunately witnessing a departure from rational discourse, constructive thinking and effective communication are desperately needed. High school debate has as its purpose the continuation of such assets in the hope that good debaters will make good citizens. The National Forensic League chapter at Bearden carried on an extensive list of activities including attending more forensic tournaments than ever before. Alpha-Tri-Hi-Y Officers are Janie Poole, President; Patti Dykes, 1st Vice-President; Maria Thuemler, 2nd Vice-Presi dent; Sandra Lee, Secretary; Ginny MacColl, Treasurer; Cathy Nichols, Sergeant-at-Arms; Melissa Thompson, Chaplain; and Karen Drew, Reporter. Sponsor is Mrs. Hembree. Alpha Tri-Hi-Y is a service club whose purpose is to create, maintain, and extend, throughout the home, school, and community, high standards of Christian character . The fifty-five members aredi -vided into six groups which do service projects each month. Some of the events sponsored by Alpha are the Powder Puff football game, the Mother-Daughter Banquet, and the Twirp Dance. 28
