The New Bearden High School This is the architect's drawing of the new Bearden High School. It is the school from which the Class of '70 and all classes thereafter will graduate. Construction on the new Bearden High School officially began with a ground-breaking ceremony at the new site on Gallaher View Road and Kingston Pike, Tuesday, December 5, 1967, at 4:00 P.M. After the invocation by Reverend Andrew J. Prince, Pastor of the West Hills Baptist Church and speeches by members of the City Board of Education, the ground-breaking ceremony took place with the music being provided by the Bearden High School band. Dr. Olin L. Adams, Jr., Superintendent of City Schools, served as emcee for the ceremony. Other principal participants were Dr. Roy Wallace and Mr. Andrew Hutson, assistants to Dr. Adams; William R. Turner, Bearden High School principal; Howard Temple, president of the Knoxville Board of Education; the PTSO officers from Bearden; and the principals and PTA presidents from the local elementary schools. Also, the officers of the Class of '70 and the Class of '71 attended. The new Bearden High School is scheduled for completion in July, 1969.
