OUR ROYALTY OCKS Performing “Dream, Dream, Dream, En- semble members Darrin Winner and Kristi Patterson entertain the audience with their dancing and singing talents. The Ensemble spent two months preparing for their perfor- mance. Last year was supposed to be the farewell program. But it wasn’t meant to be. The May Day tradition continued; for at least another year. The renovation, set to begin in June, 1983, caused the cancella- tion of most assemblies. But with the help of student council presi- dent Brian Davis and vice presi- dent Cindy McFarland, and the support of the student body, the assembly was rescheduled. In- stantly problems arose, including finding a place to hold the festivi- ties. The final decision, the stadi- um, brought on doubts about the weather. But on Wednesday, May 8th, the sun shone brightly. The format also changed. There would be no night performance. Beneath the stadium, thirteen girls and their escorts nervously awaited the beginning of the as- sembly. As the band played the traditional processional march, all eyes glued to the picturesque cou- ples as they entered the track. The seventh graders entered first, with Julie Shoup and Rona Cuthbert- son escorted by Brent Jones and Ricky Duckworth. Eighth grad- ers, Tosha Layton and Jessica Dressed for the fifties in a poodle skirt and polka dots, Dana Williams shows off her hula-hoop talents. The Ensemble practiced three mornings a week. Winebrenner, chose Matt Eich- horn and Paul Thompson as their escorts. Freshman attendants, Pam Pollock and Dawn Barmoy, selected Randy Knotts and Denny Crowe. Representing the sopho- mores were Stephanie Gomer and Janeen Spence escorted by Eric Patterson and Jon Harris. Juniors, Marne Davis and Sharon Gast- geb, entered on the arms of Andy Souders and Mike Eberly. Senior attendants were Randi Swanson and Nerissa Wampler, and they were escorted by Robert Cuth- bertson and Jason Brode. After all the attendants en- tered, May Queen, Samantha Thrasher, was escorted in by Ran- dy Eichorn. Mr. Preaskorn crowned Samantha who was wearing a white gown with pink bows. Entertaining the court and spectators, the band played Mi- chael Jackson selections. And the ensemble sang music from the 1950’s. Poodle skirts and hula- hoops added to the spectacle. After the band played their last note, Vice Principal, James Thompson, dismissed school and May Day was declared a success. Scanning the audience, Rona Cuthbertson searches for her parents while the Ensem- ble performs with hula-hoops to “Peppermint Twist. Rona was a seventh grade attendant. L Skidmore 'M. ay °ay 13
