STILL ON TOP For some teams, an 8-3 re- cord stands as something to celebrate, but for the wres- tling team, losing any match was a shock. For the first time since 1981, the Beall wrestlers were defeated in dual competition, but they still turned in an excellent season. Leading the way for Beall this season were Billy Caton and Leroy Day, who finished the year with undefeated 21- 0 records. Caton wrapped up an outstanding career with the third highest winning percentage in the history of Beall High School. Beall won eight dual matches, and took top prizes at the Keyser Tournament and its own Thomas R. Davis Memorial Tournament. Winning their weight classes at the Davis were Ca- ton, Day, and junior Randy Twigg. Beall also claimed five titles at the Keyser Tour- nament as sophomores Wes Walker, John Kealy, and Denny Crowe joined with Caton and Day to grab victo- ries. The Mounties 57-match winning streak came to a halt against Fort Hill, but Beall bounced back at the end of the season with out- standing performances in tournament competition. The Mounties presented a solid showing at the Bi- County Championships. Seven of Beall’s wrestlers won their weight classes. Kealy, Caton, Twigg and Day, joined with freshman Ryan Davis, junior Jeff Phil- lips and senior Kenny Gar- lock to dominate the Bi- Counties. In fact, all ten of Beall’s wrestlers qualified for competition in the Re- gional Class C Champion- ships. Despite the disappoint- ment the Mounties felt about breaking their unde- feated streak, they still fin- ished the year as one of the top teams in the area. FIGHTING FOR A PIN. heavyweight Jamie Cutter finally pins his opponent in 2:26 to secure a 49-15 victory over the Black Knights. The sophomore finished the regular season with 12 pins. Cutter, along with the other starting wrestlers, qualified for the Regional Tournament. B Luger 96 ame Difference
