By the end of the third game of the 1977 football season, it looked as though Bayside's Marlins were headed for a playoff berth. Mr. Morton's squad surprised the Beach district by roll- ing to three consecutive victories. The team was strong and unified until it was found that there was an ineligible player on the team. Consequently, Bayside was forced to forfeit two victories. This narrowed the team's chance for a championship, but it did not destroy the team spirit. The local papers were still calling Bayside, . . . the best balanced team at the Beach. g The Marlins never gave up. They suffered defeats in losing to First Colonial on a missed two-point conversion, 14-13, and to Kellam, 3-0, when they missed a touchdown by inches. The only other disappointment was against Princess Anne. Booker T. Washington, our Homecoming opponent, Granby, and a soggy Maury team learned that Bayside was a team to be reckoned with.
