Skill Put to Use By educating students in the fields of retailing, advertis- ing, and salesmanship, the Distributive Education pro- gram provided students with the skills needed to make a favorable adiustment to the business world. The students left early each day to apply their newly-acquired skill. ICT Directs Student's Needs Providing o cooperative association between the stu- dent, school, and industry, ICT gave the student the op- portunity for industrial training. Students received class- room instruction directly related to technical and non- technicol phases of the business world. Mrs. Thompson, the department head, and Mrs. Naylor directed each student's work toward effi- ciency in sewing, cooking, interior decoration, and child care. Kitchen units, sewing machines, and sev- eral well-furnished rooms aided interested pupils in gaining homemaking experience. Power Mechanics Augments Curriculum Careful craftsmanship was the byword of the ln- dustrial Arts Department, headed by Mr. Edwards. Its curriculum included Drafting I, ll, and Ill, Metals I and ll, Woods I and Il, and freshly reinstated Power Mechanics and Electronics. The goal in of- fering these courses was not so much to teach a trade as to build a foundation for further study.

Their endeavors drew them into the Bayside community, and their assistance pro- vided reassurance during the difficult days of test- ing and selecting vocations and colleges.
