Music Acts as Bridge Between Participants Perhaps only through the realm of music can all the barriers between people be broken and a com- mon bond be constructed. ln this way, Mr. Rule and Mrs. Whitlock guided their students through a spe- cial curriculum not restricted by lectures, but broad- ened by the total involvement of the students. Six Weeks Projects Provide In-depth Study of Art While seeking to express themselves through var- ious media, the students of the Art Department found satisfaction in their sundry six-weeks proiects which allowed them to pursue a particular field of interest in depth. In the same vein, both Mrs. Morri- son and Mrs. Smith worked to increase the enthusi- asm of the students and their level of achievement. A' rs' J? gpm I HQ Q11 HI , Q ' QQ , A ,W . With a similar aim, the Physical Educa- tion department worked to improve the well-being of BHS students. This plan involved not only sports and calisthenics, but also classroom instruction on the subiects of health, mental illness, and drug abuse. Driver Education was also included in the curriculum.

Mrs. Thompson, the department head, and Mrs. Naylor directed each student's work toward effi- ciency in sewing, cooking, interior decoration, and child care. Kitchen units, sewing machines, and sev- eral well-furnished rooms aided interested pupils in gaining homemaking experience. Power Mechanics Augments Curriculum Careful craftsmanship was the byword of the ln- dustrial Arts Department, headed by Mr. Edwards. Its curriculum included Drafting I, ll, and Ill, Metals I and ll, Woods I and Il, and freshly reinstated Power Mechanics and Electronics. The goal in of- fering these courses was not so much to teach a trade as to build a foundation for further study.
