0 arlins Win Four in a Row The Marlins put the finishing touches on their best season ever by outshooting the Deep Creek Hornets 56-48. From there Bayside moved on to its tourna- ment battle with First Colonial. However, the Pa- triots removed the Marlins from further competition by a score of 79-58. With a record number of wins, four of them in a row, a record number of goals for a season, and a tournament spot, the Marlins were anything but dis- pirited. 4: X 3 Q if Sv : 6 Robbie Cook MOD executes a perfect iump shot from the corner. Despite triple team defense, Petie Withers U 21 manages to get off his shot.

Q E ,, . .,. o I Marlins Gvercome Rough Start Bayside began the new year on the wrong foot, losing to Maury's 32 point scoring burst in the last quarter 74-49. The Marlins grabbed an early lead and repeatedly cut short Kempsville surges for a 58-54 decision over the Chiefs. Lake Taylor's strong defense held the Bayside scoring to 34 points in their non-conference game with the Marlins. Deep Creek found itself at the wrong end of a Bayside of- fensive stoked by Phil Lawson, with 23 points, and Pete Withers, with 18. Rallying behind Robbie Cook, the Marlins broke open a tight game with Kellam in the third quarter, resulting in a 7l-56 victory. The Marlins cinched their third of four consecutive victories by snuffing out Granby 59-52. The straight shooting of Richard Poole, Phil Lawson, and Petie Withers was instru- mental in Granby's first defeat by Bayside. The fol- lowing week the Marlins had a little trouble at the start but managed to overcome a I2-point deficit and outscore Cox 69-67. This victory, Baysides's first over the Falcons, set a record for number of Marlin wins in a row. Booker T. Washington broke the Marlin streak, then the Lake Taylor Titans added insult to iniury as they slipped by the Marlins toward an 85-73 victo- ry. Bayside returned to its winning ways when in the last 6 seconds it defeated Norview 62-60. First Co- lonial beat the Marlins with its accurate shooting, but Bayside fared better against the Cavaliers of Princess Anne. Again Princess Anne had problems handling the Bayside blitz, but bested the Marlins 65-56. 179
