Mike Kelly C301 prepares to smash Norview receiver. ,, l I , -. U' '4 2 1-. Defense was a key to the Marlin success story. Marlins Capture City Championship Misfortune plagued Bayside when Norview came to play. What little scoring there was in the first half was provided by Bayside's Billy Petree, who kicked a 27-yard field goal. The second half brought a see- saw battle for the lead, but the Pilots' running game slowly wore down the Marlin defense. The final score of the land-based contest found Norview on top 22-IO. Bayside put its long-awaited winning season in the bag when it defeated Princess Anne. What the Marlins lacked in offensive punch they made up with defensive muscle. They impeded the Cavalier running game and stopped the PA Machine in 2 goal-line stands. Billy Petree's field goal put the Cavaliers down decisively by the score of 3-O. Bayside, putting the final touch on the Marlins' most successful season, speared its closest rival, Kempsville, and captured the city football crown. Lance Platz set up the first score by intercepting a Kempsville pass. Lloyd Bohn cashed it in for six points. Repeated Marlin scoring found Bayside on top 20-O at the half. Try as they might, the Chiefs could only squeeze out I4 points, not enough to cap Bayside's 20.

Gne of the most sig- nificant victories was that over Granby. The Marlins tallied a perfect score of l5-49 in this meet. Anoth- er one pitted archrival Princess Anne against the Marlin feet fleet, but the Cavaliers fell before the tide of Bayside 27-32.
