J. Boone 1441 hands off to R. Emerson 1331. Quarterback M. Laubach 1153 sweeps around left end. Despite an outstanding performance by All- Tidewater fullback Bay Emerson and the seventy yard kick-off return by Jackie Boone, the Marlins failed in their bid to win the school's first Homecoming. The Game played before many returning Alumni saw the Marlins jump to an early 12-O lead behind the running of Emerson. Then with 2:59 left in the first half, the Oscar Smith offense caught fire after a kick- off return tothe Marlin 48 and set up the Tigers' first score. With the shock of the score in their minds, the Marlins fumbled, and the Tigers re- covered and went on to score and led at the half 14-12. Smith went on to score two more touchdowns in the second half. The Marlins fought hard and scored one more touchdown to close the Smith lead to 20-19, but the Tigers ran for the final touchdown and ended the game with a 27-19 victory. J.
