A candidate for the Ushers Force must have satisfactory study and attitude marks. He must secure the approval of the registration teacher, and then file an application hearing the endorsement of every class teacher. Those who are accepted, are assigned to posts, and there direct and expedite traffic during the change of classes. They must keep the corridors free of people who do not possess ofTicial school passes. These remarks have a familiar ring in Hoorn C-5, the press room of the “Beacon”, our high school newspaper. During free periods, after school, and on the night before the publication of each of the eight papers issued in a school year, the staff members work on articles and on newspaper makeup to insure journalistic excellence in “The Beacon”. The staff was signally honored by the C.S.P.A.'s selection of five Bayonne delegates from among 3500 national delegates at the March Convention in New York, to interview District Attorney Hogan of New York, and to w rite a convention release for the United Press. Pictures of the Bayonne delegation appeared in the “New York Times”, the “Herald Tribune”, and in other major dailies from coast to coast. HOME ECONOMICS ATTENDANCE CLERKS Advisor: Theresa Robinson, City Supervisor Home economics prepares students in home-making, family life, careers, economy, and human psychology. The aim is to make the home a workshop where peace and brotherhood of man become realities. FASHIONS Advisors: Mary O’Donnell, Spepliunie IMaskon, katliieen Lowry. In clothing, a phase of Home Economics, students are trained in purchasing, designing, ami making wearing apparel that is simple and serviceable. Leaders in this year’s fashion show are pictured above. Advisor: Kli .ulietli Reid Attendance clerks collect daily the slips on which absentees are listed. These slips are separated according to districts, and are sent to attendance officers who visit homes. BEAUTY CULTURE Advisors: Miss O'Hare and Mrs. Whitehead of Teehnieal Hi(th. Beauty Culture students study the scalp, the texture of the hair, skin diseases, facial nerves, muscles and hones. Theory precedes practice. Operators work on each other. 94
