 - MKHICA is on the march! on tile march to maintain and to spread those “inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” the statement and the memory of which are immortalized in those historic documents reproduced in this hook. To us, the youth of America, falls an important task. It is the task of using every resource we have to preserve our democratic way of life. That we will do. To that we pledge ourselves. But despite the hard days that lie ahead, good times and old memories have their place, too, and must not he forgotten. Let this Year Book of 1042 remind us that life can he free and joyous, and in the strength of that memory, let us dedicate ourselves to the task of perpetuating that life for others— our American Wav. foreword Pour Year Book Staffs Dedication Administration and Faculty Class of February 11)42 Class of June 11)42 ('ndergraduate Classes Clubs and Activities Athletics Autographs Five Undergraduatc Manager Stanley Goldberg SEX I OR 11CSIX ESS COMMITTEE Left io Might. Merity, Superintendent of Schools, and Dr. Walter F. Robinson. Principal of Senior High School. Mr. Isadore ChcrtofT, Mr. Alexander O’Connor and Mr. Charles Koren were assigned as instructors of the classes, and Dr. Robinson plans to assist jjerson-ally in the instruction when courses are further under way. Sixty boys from all departments of the school were selected and were divided into two sections which meet every day for two consecutive periods. Most of the students enrolled are Seniors alxnit eighteen years of age. Although the course was originally designed for l oys only, many girls expressed a desire to enroll in it. Because of the experimental nature of the program and the rapidity with which it was set up. the girls were not admitted. The young aviatrices, however, will Ik welcome in Septemlx r when the work will Ik expanded to cover a wider field. The sixty students now enrolled were chosen carefully on the basis of background and interests from double that mimher of applicants. They have made Room 323 a virtual arsenal of aeronautics. Model airplanes, navigation charts, instruments, and air magazines fill the room. Upon successful completion of the course, each student will receive one unit toward graduation credit. This can Ik done because Bayonne High School is among the first of Xew Jersey High Schools to be certified to teach aeronautics. The course of studies includes aerodynamics, meterology and navigation similar to that of the Civil Aeronautics Association plan. Worthwhile programs, highlighting prominent speakers, movies, and film slides have been planned to make the course as vital and efficient as possible. Coaches Lee and Haring built up a 1942 Garnet and W hite Team that will long he remembered in the annals of B. II. S. shirts. 'Flic offensive attack of the team centered alxmt the brilliant passing of Sal I.ucarrello. All-County Fullback, and flashy exhibition running of Eddie Sause and Frank Cuzy. This remarkable combination was aided ably by the fine blocking of Bill W arner. Eddie O'Neill. John Adomaitis and Bill Dzugan. All the credit for this record season, however, should not Ik given to the spirited offense of these grid-sters. The completely co-ordinated and machine like precision of the linesmen provided the vital defense necessary for victory. Schedule Date Team We They Sept. 27 Emerson 13 6 Oct. 4 Memorial 0 19 Oct. 11 Union Hill 19 0 Oct. 18 Paterson Central 13 6 Oct. 25 Lincoln 12 0 Nov. 11 St. Peter’s Prep 0 0 ON THE COURT With a number of regulars returning in September, Coach Lee’s basketeers seemed headed for another successful year. The loss of the first three out of five games did not daunt the spirits of either the Garnet and White mentor or the Cagers themselves. Rallying after defeat, they gave such a fine exhibition of fast stepping, skillful ball playing that they won the South Hudson County Division Championship for the fifth consecutive year. With this victory went the right to oppose Memorial High in the finals of the County playoff. After losing this thrilling contest, the Beaconeer courtmen entered the State Tournament winning two tough battles before going down to defeat before Memorial in the sectional finals. Enthusiastic rooters for the team will not soon forget the spectacular playing of Emil lludak. our All-State candidate, and the remarkable set-shooting of Marvin Isenberg.
