i PRESIDENTS Following the resignation of President Pat M. Neff effective January l, 1948, Doctor W. T. Gooch, former Dean of the Graduate School and Chairman of the Chemistry Department, was appointed by the Board of Trustees to act as Interim President. Following appointment of a new President, Doctor Gooch became the DR. w. R. wi-:ITE , , , HDL Billy first Vice-President of Baylor. For a new leader to keep alive the spirit and tradition of the university, the Board of Trustees selected a man who could qualify as Christian leader, preacher, educator-Doctor William Richard- son White, pastor of the First Baptist Church at Austin, chairman of the Texas Baptist Executive Board, and former President of Hardin-Simmons University at Abilene. In a telegram to the Board of Trustees, received January 7, Dr. White said, l now accept the presidency of Baylor University to become ef- fective February l, l948.
