Tolerant Dr. F. G. Guittard loves a round of golf and the arm- chair sports. Wlhen not worrying about his students, he is pondering the problems of the post-war world. Droll Dr. Lorena Stretch teaches Stretch lOl, no matter how the catalogue records it. She is friendly with the students and takes an active part in student activities. Saintly, 77-year-old Dr. J. B. Tidwell is a world-renowned Bible scholar, but he terms himself merely a country preacher. One of the most revered men in Baylor. Advocate of the healthier life, Dr. Douglas is one of the top- flight badminton athletes in the country. His physical program influences and reaches every stu- dent in Baylor. Biscuits in the Old Southern Style, is Professor Greenwood's art. She teachers the economics of running a home to many Baylor girls who will forget their chem- istry, et al., long before they will forsake their cooking knowledge. Talented Proxy Grove is known as one of the better Southwest music experts. Her classes are both technical and general as she believes the philosophy of music is equal to know-how. Speech A subtle mytl1 has arisen at Baylor that paints a professor as a stuffy person that never remembers a face and never forgets to retell an old joke. But your humble professor is 111ore than that. He is a nebulous entity, a person around whom campus conversation Hlld tradition often center. Bound-Up l9l3 here presents the heads of the departments. We salute them and their profession . . . the lifeblood of a great university. lt is rare for a man to become a legend, but frosty- headed A. J. L l'he Doctor Armstrong has entrenched himself into the heart of Baylor men everywhere. The world's greatest Browning scholar is vital personality who never will be forgotten by his students. Ethics in business, an 3lIl10St unheard of reality, is successfully propounded by Dr. Monroe S. Carroll, the professor who remembers you when you return to the campus. Nlany a tale told by returning exes revolves around him. Sara Lowrey's cultured accents sound strange in a class room lilled with drawling Texans. But her classes attract the best students in school, those who desire to learn the latest methods and newest interpretations. When not writing learned treatises on scientific subjects, Dr. W. T. Gooch putters around in his garden. A elass room disciplinarian, he saves his breath for brisk intellectual discussion. Scholarly Henry Trantham can always tell you the word the Greeks had for it. His pungent observations and dry wit highlight l1is cultural lectures on history and the Greek language. Gooizu. W. T.. l'h.D. When the 100-odd faculty inenihers rnareh in academic parade, well represented are such honorable trappings as the erinine of oxford, the bonnet of London, Yale blue, Harvard crimson, and an unusually large number of Ph. D. gold tassels. Formal Baylor is the university of the class room, the laboratory, the Campus proper. lt is what the undergraduate tries to forget, what the graduate tries to renienlber. The general trend in the college annual has been away from a pieturization of the formal parts of university life, the Round-Up thinks otherwise. The lecture hall is the university, and it will remain so. AIWHN, WUUIISON. A.B. IJAKEIK. Mus. I'Am,, M.A. BAKER, PAUL, M.F.A. BAIIKIGMA, MARTHA, M.M. lilxfuzu, J. D., l'h.D.
