Bayfield, Colorado May 1, 1971 Judy McVlcker New York City Dear Judy, Since you are busy In New York as the nation’s leading dental technician, I will be glad to make the arrangements for the Class of 1961 reunion. My ditch-digging job doesn't keep me too busy, anyway. Sally Gilbert and Karen Powell, co-owners of the world-famous Cafe Bayfield, said they will let their equally famous chef, Marvon Hazleton, prepare the meal. Art Goolsby, whose cattle ranch now includes one third of Colorado, said he and his two top cowboys, Leonard Tanner and Kenny Mullen, will supply all the meat for our banquet from their large herd. Milk will be from Diane Hayes' Dairy Farm, and we'll need lots of it, because Carol Pinckert's ulcers have become much worse since she became press agent to Linda Law, famous author of How 1 Made My Forceful Personality Pay Off. Robert Sower, owner of Lewis Merc., and Connie Stafford, the manager of the store, have agreed to give us all the rest of the food we need. We can get Harvey Cundiff and John Kugle to make a totem pole for a center- piece at our banquet. They became interested In this craft during our senior year and have become quite good at it. Music will be provided by the Fred Tolson Trio, with Fred on drums, Winford Boyet on guitar, and Bill Mars on piano. Also there possibly will be a few vocals by Caroline Hickman, the new singing sensation at the Oxford Opera this year. The reunion will probably get good coverage in the papers, since Donald Mann, after his success with book reports in high school, has become a famous newspaper writer. I still haven't located Margaret Tate, who is somewhere in Europe on a trip around the world with her fifth husband, or Navy Admiral Philip Stock, who hasn't been seen since his cruise ship sank a mile out of harbor last week, (everyone got off safely, but they were scared to come back home) to tell them of our plans, but I'm sure everyone will be there. See you soon. Jimmy Pierson

HISTORY In September of 1949, 27 children began the first grade under the direction of Mrs. Holgate. Out of these 27 first graders only eight are to graduate from Bayfield in 1961. They are Harvey Cundiff, Kenny Mullen, Jimmy Pierson, Judy McVicker, Philip Stock, Sally Gilbert, Karen Powell, and Marlene Hayes. Under the leadership of Mrs. Mair, we ventured into the second grade. Margaret Tate joined us and Karen Powell left. Mrs. Ostwald helped us through the third grade. We were joined by Connie Stafford. The business of learning was old stuff after promotion into the fourth grade. Mrs. Bureman taught us most of what we learned that year. Leonard Tanner, Caroline Hick- man and Diane Hayes joined our ranks and Margaret Tate left. Our present senior sponsor and English teacher, Mrs. Parks, taught us in the fifth grade. Entering the sixth grade, we were, we felt, old veterans of this thing called learn- ing. Mrs. Martin gave us our instructions that year. Our lone, new enrollee was John Kugle. Karen Powell returned to us. in the seventh grade, we were led by Mrs. Smith. Nothing especially eventful happened that year. In our final year of grade school, Mrs. Crowell sat behind the teacher's desk. Bill Mars and Linda Law decided to be with us and Margaret Tate returned. We somehow survived Freshman initiation and determined to get revenge. As sophomores, we had the pleasure of welcoming the freshmen into high school. Since rules against rough initiations were enforced, we made the freshmen do something constructive, (picking up rocks on the football field). Robert Sower became part of our class that year. Our junior year was quite busy. We had a very successful play and prom and we were prepared for our last year of high school. Donald Mann, Marvon Hazleton, Art Goolsby, and Carol Pinckert were our new entries for that year. It is now our final year in the Bayfield school system. We are looking forward to our Senior play, the Junior-Senior Prom, and most of all, graduation. Winford Boyet and Fred Tolson enrolled this year to bring our class total to 23.
