'ZiSolv Utte 960 ‘Sacf ieCcC ScAooC 'Sat ieCcC. (?oC vttuta We, the staff, dedicate this yearbook to the Class of 1960. Many classes have come into this building from the eighth grade, stayed four years, and then graduated. Many students have heard the ring of voices and the clatter of type- writers, have felt the joys and sorrows of highschool life in this build- ing. These are no more; they are echoes fading slowly but surely into the past. The Class of 1960 is the last class to pass through the doors of this building as it is now. SUPERINTENDENT Mr. E. R. Class Vice-President 3. One September morning of 1948, 25 excited children began their first day of school. Under the leadership of Mrs. Mayfield we learned our ABC's and 1-2-3's. Twenty-two of us found the second grade, under Mrs. Crowell, a venture into grow- ing up, but a little easier. Tommy Beuten and Tommy Miller were welcomed into our class. In the third grade, we struggled with long division, but under the capable hands of Mrs. Ostwald, we went on to the fourth grade. Our new student this year was Wayne Kingsley. Just at the time we needed correcting and sturdy guidance we got it under the sin- cere leadership of Mrs. Bureman. This, our fourth year, we were joined by Mardella Marshall. In the fifth grade we loved Mrs. Kelly who helped us on the road to better under- standing and friendship. Basketball became one of our outside interests. Hazel Ann McCoy, Bill Newton, and Lorene Caviggia joined us. We spent our sixth year in the hectic upstairs over the gym where we found con- centration hard indeed due to inviting odors from the kitchen and interesting sounds from the gym. However, Mrs. Grush kept us busy and we went on into the advanced stage of seventh graders. We were joined by Tom Wells. In the seventh grade Mrs. Smith taught us many things, including leather work. This year Georgiana Kugle enrolled. Mrs. Crowell led us through our eighth grade and inspired us with goals for our lives. Clement Frost and Erwin Taylor entered the class. The usual freshman initiation took place with some of us the worse for the wear and much wiser in the ways of the sophomores. Our sophomore year we were the most important of all students, and no one could out do us, we were sure. However, patience persevered and we made the step to juniors. Our junior year Janice Luttig and John David enrolled and Bayfield won a conference basketball championship. We did our best to entertain the seniors with a beautiful Prom. Our last and most memorable year finds us looking backward with nostalgia and forward with anticipation. Betty Weddle, Janet Sower, Roberta Lippert, Carolynne Mc- Intyre, Julian Martin, and Gene Berry started together in 1948 and will finish together in 1960. We have three new students, Gayle Kimball, Bob Dunham, and Howard Lock- wood, making 22 prospective graduates. We hope to have money enough to sneak a little farther than the Navajo Dam. With the Prom and graduation ahead of us we will be busy and happy up to the last minute. January 25, 1970 Dear Gene, I hope this letter reaches you, but it's hard to tell with you moving around so much: Florida to Alaska! It has been nearly ten years since we graduated and I think it would be a good idea for you, as senior class president, to call a reunion for this spring or summer. Newspaper work really is exciting and I have pretty well kept up with everyone in our class. Bob Dunham is on a world tour with the present Miss America, Georgiana Kugle, for whom he is publicity manager. Tommy Beuten and his famous orchestra played fanfare for them last week at the 21 Club. John Davis is recovering from his tenth auto accident. One a year and he is still claiming, 'T won't move over for any truck! Janice Luttig, the R. N. in charge of the accident ward, has started saving the arm splints. 1 have heard that Julian Martin has hired Gayle Kimball as head cashier and Roberta Lippert as head bookkeeper for Martin Mercantile, Holesale and Resale's national headquarters, located where the Lewis Mercantile used to be. Senator Thomas R. Miller and Chief Clement Frost had a conference last week. It seems that the Utes are so rich that it is affecting the national economy. Howard Lockwood, Secretary of the Treasury, is very worried about the situation. Bill Newton recently crashed the headlines by winning a drag race - on foot! His wind, and that of several others, has improved since Lorene Caviggia startled the na- tion by putting prohibition back into effect - singlehanded. Wayne Kingsley, mechanical engineer for GMC, has perfected a new car that will be put on the market this fall. It is called the Yelsgnik. He was much to modest to call it Kingsley. Betty Weddle has recently developed a scientific method of raising chinchillas large enough to make a full length coat from one pelt. Carolynne McIntyre was pictured in the latest issue of LIFE wearing one of the fabulous coats. Tom Wells, still single, is happily farming the 40 acres that his father gave him for graduation. Mardella Sower, PTA president, may be able to help you arrange for the accomoda- tions, etc. If you contact Erwin Taylor, basketball coach at Fort Lewis, he may be able to help with the entertainment. But you’ll probably want Mrs. Kenneth Vaughan (Janet Sower), as class secretary, to handle the details. Well, I certainly hope that I get to see everyone this spring. With many memories.
