BILLY SQUIRES DICK WELLS How prone to doubt, how cautious are the wise! Of all the days that’s in the week, I dearly love but one day, And that’s the day that comes between a Saturday and Monday. Hail fellow, well met. Soft peace she brings; wherever she arrives, She builds our quiet as she forms our lives. GEORGE WISER BARBARA WOMMER

SENIOR CLASS HISTORY We began our school days in 1943. Mrs. Sheilds was our teacher. Bill Squires entered from Breen at Christmas. The next year we really thought we were big because after all, we could run over the first graders. Our teacher was Mrs. Mohney. The Third grade was uneventful except for learning how to do short division and multiplication. Our teacher was Mrs. Walker. The Fourth grade was quite a mixed up year. We had no less than five teachers. They were Miss Small, Mrs. James, Mrs. Knickerbocker, Mrs. Walker, and Mrs. Butler. Wayne Martin, Gordon Powell, Romona Tanner, David Per cell, Myrtle Harris and Sondra Carmack were promoted from the third grade. Wanda Peterson entered from Marvel. The next year we had Mrs. McCreery. We all thought she was pretty rough for making us learn our states and capitols. David Neuenschwander entered from California and Dora Harper from Kansas. In the sixth grade we had Mrs. Crowell. We all liked her because she would let us go out to play ball when we got our work done. We were pretty proud because we were the first class to go to school in the Gym. Roy Kelly entered at the first of the year and left at the end. In the seventh grade we had Mrs. Smith. We thought she was rough compared to Mrs. Crowell, but on the whole I think we all liked her pretty well. LaVonne McCoy, Barbara Wommer, Freda Beuten, and Floyd Weddle entered from Columbas, and Lee Condiff came from Ben Springs. Dora Harper left at the end of the year. Romona Tanner also left and went to Farmington. Nancy Mc- Kinney entered at Christmas from Ignacio. Well, we finally made it to the Eighth grade. We were Lords over the whole grade school. This was really an exciting year, because the boys learned to dance. Floyd Weddle went to Durango and Billy Chadd entered from Dove Creek. Junior Tafoya entered that year. We didn’t feel so brave when we entered high school (that is for a while anyway) until after initiation. That cold, stringy spaghetti nearly killed the girls. Jo Ann Powell entered from Silver- ton and Billy Chadd joined the Navy. Gordon Powell left at the end of the year. Our Sophomore year we really thought we were big because after all we had a whole year of high school experience behind us. Mrs. Martin was our sponsor, and I don’t think any of us will forget those Chili Suppers we served all year after Ball Games. Jo Ann Powell went to Arizona and Gordon Powell went to Durango. Sondra Carmack went to California. Well, we finally became Juniors and we had to start concentrating on the Banquet and prom. The seniors came near being served Sauer kraut and weiners after we went out of our way to elaborate decorations. Our sponsor was Mrs. Martin. Nancy McKinney left at Christmas and went to Carlsbad, New Mexico. We are finally seniors and are looking forward to the day when we will get our diplomas. We are also looking forward to our senior trip, and Oh I what a time we will have. Mr. McTaggart is our sponsor. Charles Oliver left at the end of last year to attend school in Texas. Gayle Boulden also went Back East to be married. She will graduate with us at the end of the year.
