H. H. HAISTEN, CDR, USNF CHIEF STAFF OFFICER CDECEMBER 1959-MARCH 19621 CDR H.H. HAISTEN, a native of Alabama, is a graduate of the 1943 class of the United States Naval Academy. His first duty was aboard the USS CLARK CDD 3611 where he served as Communications Officer and Gunnery Officer. In March 1945, he became Gunnery Officer of the USS HUGH PURVIS QDD 7091 and later became its Executive OFFicer. From June 1946 to May 1949 CDR HAISTEN attended the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School. His next duty assignment was to the Staft, COMDESFLOT FOUR, where he served until June 1951. He then served on the StaFF, COMBATCRULANT, as Electronics OFFicer until May 1953. At this time CDR HAISTEN was assigned to sea duty as Executive OFFicer of the USS JOHN HOOD CDD 6551. ln March, 1955, he took Command of the USS ALLEN M. DUMNER QDD 6921. ' After 3 years assignment in BUSHIPS, CDR HAISTEN received orders to COMPHIBRON. SEVEN STAFF and assumed duties as Chief StaFF OFFicer, December 1959. u ln March 1962 he became Commanding OFFicer of the USS POINT DEFIANCE CLSD 311.

B D. SLAYMAKER, CDR, USN CHIEF STAFF OFFICER QMARCH 1962- 5 A native of Michigan, CDR SLAYMAKER attended the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating in 1943. His first commissioned duty was aboard USS HAGGARD QDD 555D in the Pacific Theater. After multiple Kamikaze attacks placed HAGGARD out of commission CDR SLAYMAKER became Gunnery Officer of USS BRUSH CDD 745i In 1947 he was assigned as Aide and Flag Lieutenant to COMDESPACICOMCRUDESPAC in San Diego. Then followed a tour as NROTC instructor at University of Michigan. In 1953 CDR SLAYMAKER was ordered to USS JUNEAU QCLAA 119i as Operations Officer, and in 1955 attended Armed Forces Staff Collegej After a two year assignment in BUPERS, CDR SLAYMAKER returned to sea as Commanding Officer, USS OBANNON CDDE 4505 in 1958, then remained at Pearl Harbor to become Chief Staff Officer, Destroyer Flotilla FIVE. March 19, 1962 CDR SLAYMAKER reported for duty with Staff, AMPHIBIOUS SQUADRON SEVEN. He has been awarded the following decorations. Bronze Star Medal Cwith V Claspj, American Defense, American Theater, Asiatic Pacific Cwith Nine Starsj, Victory Medal, China Service Medal, China Occupation Medal, Philippine Liberation fwith two starsj, Philippine Independence. CDR SLAYMAKER resides at 6061 Dudman Avenue, Garden Grove, California, with his wife, CATHERINE, and two children, Marilyn and Duffy.
