Senior Prophecy As I was boarding a Frontier .00 puddle-jumper from Denver to Bayard International to attend the 10-year reunion for the class of 1978 I find myself recalling my senior year. As I remember all the good times we had, my thoughts are suddenly interrupted by the captain's voice which I immediately recognize as being that of MAYNARD KRANTZ. He explains to the passengers that with a little luck and a reasonably qualified co-piot that we should land in Bayard in no less than 3 days. With that comforting news I settle back in my seat, close my eyes, and prepare myself for the worst. Just as I begin to doze off, I am rudely awakened by something very cold splashing into my lap. I look up to see the stewardess turn a bright red and behind that red is none other than NANCY BRUNGARDT. Nancy and I recognize each other and begin to reminisce about our high school days. Nancy tells me that after traveling with a certain band as public relations manager for four years, she tired of it and worked her way through stewardess school as an actress gaining the lead role in COFFEE TEA, OR ME-PART II. As Nancy moves along to help the other passengers, I glance across the isle to see yet another of my old classmates, JEFF JUELFS, who is now president of MARK EDEN, INCORPORATED with wife Laurie Wickard as his top model. Maynard's highly civilized voice comes over the intercom to say that we would soon be landing in Bayard and would all passengers fasten their seatbelts and pray that the dirt runway was not blown away with the last Nebraska wind storm. Luckily with Maynard's exceptional ability and technological mind we land safely at Bayard International Airport. As the plane comes to a halt I watch as the baggage car comes buzzing up to the side of the plane and it begins to seem rather strange when the baggage car is not decreasing in speed in the slightest as it approaches the plane. When the baggage car hits the plane there is some confusion as the people rush to the door to see if the driver of the baggage car was hurt. As the passengers pile out of the plane we arrive outside to see MARK WICKARD pulling himself out from under the wreckage of the baggage car. I am not really too surprised to see that the driver of the car is Mark, as I recall his numerous accidents in high school. As the Bayard Volunteer Fire Department rush to the scene of the accident I begin walking to the terminal which has been converted from an old train car. Upon entering the terminal all of us are searched along with our possesions by BILLY HEM-MER who is now a narcotics agent in New York and has been called to Bayard to assist the District 10 probation officer, HARVEY REICHERT, in a special assignment. After the ordeal of searching out my luggage I find myself with a couple of spare hours before the reunion so I decide to look the old Hometown U.S.A. over. Wandering past the post office I stop to pick up the paper, still known as The Bayard Transcript but now it is owned by PAM PETERSEN who naturally specializes in the Social Notes column. While reading this column I find that CINDY NUSS wedding has been postponed for the 42nd time due to the constant mysterious disappearance of the groom. Strolling on down the street I pass a building which I realize must be the new beauty shop called The Rats Nest Rhapsody which is owned and managed by JONI ESKAM who specializes in the most unusual hair styles. Walking further, I find another new business has been opened. A music store called Judy's House of Playing Pleasure. This naturally is owned by JUDY BURTON Heimbuch and her main salesman is LIONEL SANCHEZ. After visiting with Judy and Lionel for awhile I return to my hotel room to freshen up before the ban-14 quet. All ready for the banquet I head for the grade school cafeteria. CARIN CONNOR is at the door hand- ing out programs and name tags. Carin is now widely known as the Florida Sunshine Girl since replacing Anita Bryant upon her retirement from show business. Oh, and over in the corner chattering away is JOAN MEIER. She seems to have recently won Betty Crocker's Happy Homemaker Award for making a combination dessert that she can't even spell, let alone pronounce. Standing next to Joan is her dearest and most loyal friend, SANDRA BONNES Leever, who is now the proud owner of the Lullaby Shop, formerly Bayard Variety, specializing in baby clothes since she and Steve have 10 of their own. There are several other new establishments here in Bayard. One of the most popular is Porky's Butcher Shop owned by DAVID MICHAEL whose specialty is hind quarters. There is also a new place to dance, a discoteque, called Night Moves which is co-owned by SALLY HOLTHUS and JIM PULLEN. During the day Sally is the athletic director at the senior citizen center and has a championship volleyball team thanks to the ability of team captain Bill Wallace. Jim, during the day, is employed at Bayard General Hospital as a nurses aid. And believe me he does aid the nurses! It seems that SHELLIE MORGAN has gone into competition against her father and is the new owner of the Boston Store. PAM BASTRON Carrier is now living in Scottsbluff and through her hearts attachment is still doing her weekly shopping at the Boston Store, even though Co-Op is closer and gives dividends. As the dinner progresses I understand that from our class quite a number have become celebrities. SALLY BANGERT and SHERRIE LOGSDON are now top models for Long and Silky Cream Rinse. On the weekends Sally takes time to work in her establishment in Scottsbluff, Rusted Buckles and Sherrie is often seen in the fields spreading fertilizer for Simplot. BRETT SMITH now has his own talk show called the BS Hour and recently had as his special guest TRACY SHAW who is working on a motion picture called The Incredible Molting Woman seeing as how her experience with sun lamps has qualified her for the job, and too, we all know what a good actress Tracy has always been. LAURIE BAUER can be seen on the tube every Saturday night at five on the Lawrence Welk Show as she is the top drummer and bubble blower. PAUL PAPPAS is currently married to Irene Chikos and living in Hollywood along with their even dozen kids and making a new show entitled Twelve is Enough. PAM HOLETON is now living in Oklahoma City employed by everyone's favorite radio station, KOMA. She has her own talk show called the Mouth Piece. Pam often features on her music program some PAUL HARRIS' greatest hits as he is now. picking his bass with the Mormon Tabernacle Boogy Choir. Last but not least on the show business scene are CINDY SINKS, MARLENE AREDNS, JODY BUSKIRK, JIM STEWART, and DAVID YOUNG who are extremely busy making silent movies for the deaf. RENEE SCHWAB has made her mark as head cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys with WADE WIMMER as her main spectator and first-string water boy. REUBEN CHACON is very successful at painting murals for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It seems Reuben has a long line of hopeful models for his various settings. Sitting across the table from me is MELANIE RAMIG who is co-truck driver on long hauls from Texarkana to Georgie bootlegging Colorado kool-aid with Doug Bauer. Next to Melanie is TAMMY SCHAFFER who is residing in Alliance with her husband Jim, raising beet crop after beet crop to pay for Jim's bad habits.
