If they are not around the main part of the school working at this or that, just about everyone knows where to look for Bob or Dave. Most likely, they will be in their room relaxing with a cup of coffee or coke. The bus drivers drive their routes and take turns returning the kindergarten to their homes at noon, plus driving the buses, which carry the pep club and the players to and from the away games. Serving behind the scenes, to keep the school running at a smooth pace, the secretaries, keep the records, balance the books, and many things too numerous for mentioning. The cooks, also keep the school going, but in a different way. These ladies serve about 400 lunches a day and each one is served with a smile. 9 We, the Seniors of 71 , would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to our class parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Nuss, for not only providing a guiding hand in our fund raising projects but also lending a hand in the molding of some of tomorrow's leaders. 10 SENIORS I.eatha Robinson Cynthia Baum Dennis Shimp Tamra Hagen Harvey Strieker, Jr. Myrl Davies Ronald Schaffer jHt Pamela Leytham Kathleen Fenning Louis Gonzales Sharon Michael Donald Deines Rollie Bauer Dennis Henkel Evelyn Baird Arthur Wolf Crystal Herman 18 Sandra Roberts Jackie Osgood Patricia Schwindt G. Man has created new problems such as pollution, and he hasn't even learned to cope with the ones he already has such as flood. This valley has been referred to as the Nile Valley, and as this picture indicates the North Platte River is beginning to look the true Nile in its seasonal flood stage. Dikes have been built up and down the valley, but fortunately, Bayard has been unaffected except for some basements flooding due to the rising water table. The real damage has been the destruction of the natural habitat of wild game that lived in thesf flooded areas. If this is today's progress, what will tomorrow have in store. These are truly times of change as shown by Pat Sinner, Debbie Hobert, and Annie Razo who are modeling the in styles of die maxi, midi, and mini, respectively. According to rumor the boys favor the mini while die girls favor another style trend, slacks. It's certainly a topsy-turvy world, but have things really changed that much. Those who work on the annual staff put in many long hours throughout the year. We hope this annual shows the proper results of the tedious work involved. Some of the seniors found that Mr. Dyer thought graduation for seniors just meant they had more free time to work on the annual. Everyone who worked toward the completion of this annual is not pictured, notably Jim B. and Joe R. who worked very hard on the class section. A special thanks is in order to those who were involved in annual sales to all members of the senior class since they are held responsible for financing this book. In other meets the team placed well against stiff competition such as Scottsbluff, Gering, and Sidney. With four of the five team members being seniors, next year's team may be a little short-handed in experience. 1 TIGER CUBS MEMORABLE MOMENTS How sweet he is! In the NPV Tourney the girls came out narrow losers to Morrill who gave the eventual champs, Mitchell, a run for the title. Judy Hewett and Frances Brown were named to the PC allconference team. 59 BHS WRESTLING In the 138 lb. class. Bob Schmick was Bayard's only State Champ. This was definitely a rebuilding year. They will lose only one man from the squad; however, he was a state champ. Bayard qualified four men for the state wrestling tournament, and they earned 20 points, which was tops in the area for class C schools. 61 BHS TRACKSTERS Head coach Larry Rector and assistants Dennis Dukesherer and Glenn Critchley The BHS track team had rather slim pickin's this year due mainly to lack of experience and some injuries. Three squad members did qualify for state, however, gaining two fourth place finishes in the state meet. Two of the qualifiers were underclassmen so Bayard should do even better at state next year. This was Coach Rector's first year in Bayard and he probably wasn't particularly disappointed with the results. The freshmen won the Panhandle C Frosh Meet and some of the freshmen and sophomores placed regularly in the high school meets. There must be better things to come. FRESHMEN STATE QUALIFIERS Randy George First in District, failed to place at state. In the triple-jump, he placed second in the District, but not at state. Up and Oops! (Must be camera shy). Rischling, Mr. Ron Winchell, Mr. Mike Winchell, Judy Hewett, and C. Martin. 64 The girls were very successful in their track endeavors this year, winning the District Meet. While garnering few first places, they pulled down second, third, fourth, and fifth places to be in the running for first place in most meets. As an example, Bayard qualified four girls for state, but none of them finished first in the District, Judy Hewett, however, threw the discus 99' 11 for fourth at State, garnering Bayard's only points. Chances for next year should be excellent, since all of the District point-getters will be returning.
