THE 964 TIGER BAYARD HIGH SCHOOL BAYARD, NEBRASKA FOREWORD The highways through high school are eventful ones. We hope that through this book, we have sketched a model of these highways to the future upon which each of us travels. Education is a wide and heavily traveled highway. There are many lanes on the highway-each leading to a desirable destination set by those who are traveling upon it. All highways are not well paved. Some highways are unpaved, rough, contain narrow and broken bridges, and at times are slippery. However, if the destination is kept in view, all dilemmas can be overcome and the highway will have served its purpose of providing a means of guidance. We are justly proud of our faculty who served as guideposts and warning signs. Many times they saved us from losing our way and helped us over the unpaved portions. 3 SIDNEY V. CHASE M.A., Colorado State College Administrative and Supervisory Degree Superintendent The Class of 1964 is grateful to have had the privilege of traveling this highway with Mr. Chase. His counseling has led us over the mountains of confusion into green valleys of success. Our sincere appreciation is extended to him for guiding us through our high school years with a deep understanding of our many problems. JAMES L. TILLMAN M.A., University of Wyoming Professional Diploma, University of Wyoming Principal It has been a privilege for the Class of 1964 to have traveled a portion of our highway with Mr. Tillman. He has been a leader, counselor, and friend of the Senior Class. He was always ready and willing to guide or advise us when we had problems or were in need of a helping hand. We acknowledge and appreciate the high caliber of leadership he gave us. 4 WILLARD KEITH COX A.B., Nebraska State Teacher's College at Peru Band BARBARA CANNON M.A., Columbia University English, Library National Honor Society JUANITA NUSS B.B.A., Texas Lamar State College of Technology 9th English, Typing I Pop Club Sponsor DAN CLARK B.A., Colorado State College Vocal Music, Science, Math Senior Sponsor GLENN HARLESS B.S., Sioux Falls College Math Junior Sponsor TERRY PEDRFTT B.S., C h a d r o n State Teacher's College Science, Driver Ed., Athletics DON CANNON M.A., Columbia University English, Spanish VIRGIL BAKER M.A., University of Wyoming Industrial Arts, General Crafts Jr. High Football HARRY MEEKER B.S., Nebraska State Teacher's College at Peru Social Studies, Boys Sports B. While crossing the bridge, one cannot pass until these requirements are met: first, a goal must be set; secondly, do not let too many outside activities interfere with the goal; finally, make sure the road is clear, then proceed. 45 Not replaceable!! Upperclassmen acquire skills and understandings necessary to live in our business and political world while eighth graders acquire necessary social skills. Our future citizens! Energetic girls strengthen their bodies while upperclassmen prepare for the future with study and experiments. Equations! Equations! and more equations. Diagram: It will have been being done! There is a wide variety of courses offered to each student and study hall provides a place for the student to prepare his daily assignments. Who needs Hammurabi's Law Code? Is this for real? Did you say mints are round? What's so interesting, boys? Does it run now? CLASSES The molecules of water form one large lake just as many students form a large student body. Each class represents a ripple in the brook of education. 51 Tim Anderson Louis Bernal Carol Buskirk Dorothy Calvert Sherry Cochran Lucille Davidshofer Richard Dowell Douglas Elder Rodney Funk Ronald Garcia Roger Gwin Willard Hageman Starla Henkel Vicki Hoffman Wayne Janis James Kopetzski Donald Kraus Kathy Leever Richard Levick James Lockman Edith Malchow David Maxcy Sandra McKillip Janice Miller Bruce Nelson Linda Nerud Abel Razo Gary Reifschneider Alvera Razos Connie Robinson Marilyn Sauer Diane Schwartz Wally Schaffer Donald Shuler Barbara Snyder Steve Strieker Paul Townsend Evelyn Vera Gene Wendt Gary Wilhelm 53 Charles Barnard Clara Barnard Beverly Batt Alice Bernal Nolene Blackstone Carol Dowell David Eigbrett Barbara Erdman Allen Farrington Roland Fries Frank Flores Steve Flores £4 Dorothy Garcia Dennis Giauque Frank Gonzales Elva Gonzales Tom Gonzales Mark Height Wayne Henkle Leland Hessler Jack Hoffman Andy Hrnicek Ruth Huck Eddie Janis Ronald Keller Gene Kelley Kathy Koptesky Terry Mauer Mary McDaniel Kenny Micheal Tommy Moreno Dale Nerud Tim Pfenning Gerald Radzymski Mary Ann Razo Bonnie Robinson Calvin Robinson James Satchell Terry Schreiner Candace Schwindt Wanda Shuler David Turja Richard Turja Pamala York 55 The Junior High Leaders EIGHTH GRADE: Kathy Kopetsky, Secretary; Candace Schwindt, President; David Eigbrett, Treasurer; Mrs. Whitney, Sponsor; Ruth Huck, Vice President. Master of ceremonies, Clinton Belden, drew many laughs from the large audience with his jokes. The program included a scene featuring Ken Hobert as The Idiot; also starring with him were Sharon Flores, Phil Morehead, and Clinton Belden. Kathy Townsend, Attie Kay Nelson, Carmen Turja, llah Cline, and Sandra Terrell recalled times spent after school for talking. The class will and class prophecy were read by Frank Schlangen. Presentations of awards, scholarships, and gifts for class sponsors and class parents were made after the entertainment. Honored guests and speakers inspect the table. Our Journey Leads Us to Southern Plantations The theme of the 1964 prom, Southern Plantations, provided a wonderful evening of fun and entertainment for the juniors, seniors, faculty, and their guests. The Master of Ceremonies, Wayne Kniss, introduced the guest speakers, dim Schmall, Steve Morris, and Mr. Chase. The trellis of roses at the doorway reminded us of the fact that we are about to enter a new horizon and the moon and stars symbolized the unknown experiences we are about to engage in. The mural painted on the wall symbolized a place of meditation and a place of love. A very delicious meal was prepared by the mothers of the juniors and served by the servers who were quaintly dressed in the garb of the old South. After the banquet everyone enjoyed dancing to the music of the Continentals. 80 The servers' gay costumes add to a wonderful evening. The Rose trellis leads to a wonderful evening.
