TO THE CLASS OF '58: VOICE OF THE ADMINISTRATION My congratulations to you upon your having successfully completed your high school education. Your several records and achievements, both as individuals and as a class, have established an enviable record. In this period of the atomic age and man’s attempt of the conquest of space, we have a few terms which may be likened to your past experiences as well as those you may have before you. “Launching pads” may be compared with your home environment, education up to now, and church influence. I trust this background training has inspired you to be well-prepared citizens. The “Countdown” has been in operation the last few weeks—those final moments of great anxiety. The success of the “blast off” which follows immediately the countdown depends entirely upon past preparations which must be correct to every minute detail. We hope our school has prepared you. In other words, we want no fizzles or duds. If all plans and actions are properly executed—no missing parts or plans—you will go into “orbit.” That means success! Your success does not depend upon the height of your orbit, but rather “are you in orbit.” Upon your graduation, you will face a new and different world. I hope each of you is prepared and will successfully go into “orbit.” My best wishes go with you. It was 3:55, the end of a day—every day. that was never quite the same. Were you in shop class? Remember when you almost lost a finger because you were using the band saw and also trying to watch the girls’ phys ed class play ping-pong in the next room? Gb- On some Fridays, there were pep rallies to boost morale and let off steam. When the band played that last march, vou were dismissed . . .
