The annual staff would like to help you to remember the events that took place in the building behind these doors by throwing the spotlight on this past year’s classes and activities. Occi l xicfctfraC. , . The Senior Class of 1956 would like to dedicate the Tiger ’56 to our high school principal, Norval R. Trout. He has laid much before us on our way to individual goals. Mr. Trout has been untiring in his efforts to make a better school for us. He generously gave his time to help us with our problems. So to you. Bayard High School ScA ol 'SutitCcny cuccC John Schlegel Jake Ahel Settlor (?1 Z4A 'rtyi towf, In 1952. 61 of us began our long journey through high school as freshmen. Mr. Reichel was chosen as sponsor. Joyce Miller was chosen president; Ron Schoeneman. vice president; John Schwartz, secretary; and Rodney Brown, treasurer. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Schoeneman were chosen class parents. During this first year of high school we became better acquainted with our fellow students and classmates by holding two parties, one each semester. At the beginning of our sophomore year our roll had decreased to 54. Mr. Seymour was elected as our sponsor and our officers were: president, Denny Elder: vice president. Robert Schaaf: secretary. John Schwartz; and treasurer. Byron McGinley. Our class parents were Mr. and Mrs. Pete Schwartz. We now began to take a greater interest in our school and its activities. Our only project, a party at which we gave away many prizes (including cash I, proved to be a great success. As juniors we experienced the thrill of becoming upperclassmen. We had a big year ahead of us and with this thought in mind, we chose the following officers: Larry Hill, president; John Schwartz, vice-president; Joyce Schwartz, secretary: and Ron Schoeneman. treasurer. Mrs. Siebenalar and Mr. Knepper were chosen sponsors and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Yekel, class parents. In December, under the direction of Mr. Knepper. we presented The Groom Said No” as our class play. Receiving our class rings was a day we shall always remember. But the highlight of our junior year was the Junior-Senior Prom. Our theme was “Moonlight and Roses, combined with Starlight.” The making of the 15500 roses proved to be a tedious job, but also a great deal of fun. The school traditions were handed down to the following classmates: Book of Knowledge. Sally Kidd: School Spirit. Donna Schneider; Athletic Letter, Don Shaw; and Honor Yoke. Denny Elder. And then the anticipated day arrived—we were Seniors. Our officers were: president, Denny Elder; vice president. Gerry Michael: secretary. Erla Stewart: and treasurer, Larry Hill. Our class sponsors were Mrs. Mowry and Mr. Stine; class parents. Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Kidd. We selected American Beauty Rose as our class flower, and Maroon and Silver as our class colors. The production of the “Tiger” began with Larr Hill elected editor. We proved our able salesmanship as a result of our magazine campaign which added considerably to our funds. Under the direction of Mrs. Cooper we presented our senior class play, “Once Upon A Midnight.” In March. Joyce Schwartz was chosen as our representative in the D.A.R. essay contest. Many of our classmates received the highest honor a student can attain—membership in the National Honor Society. In ceremonies full of suspense, Denny Elder, Sally Kidd. Joyce Schwartz. Marjorie Yekel, Rodney Brown. Larry Hill and Donna Schneider were tapped. And then it happened—we took off on our Sneak Day on an enjoyable day of going through the Black Hills and swimming in Evans Plunge. The trip to see the Ice Capades in Denver is another trip that will always be remembered. The year passed quickly and all too soon we checked out our caps and gowns. Our first day to wear them was at the Honor Convocation where Denny Elder, Larry Hill, Donna Schneider, and Marjorie Yekel were selected for the Hall of Fame. On May 4, we were guests of the juniors at a “Candyland” prom. Class night and Baccalaureate Services arrive and suddenly the spotlight shifts and 46 sorrowful but eager Seniors step from the halls of learning as they receive their diplomas. And now all that is left is memories—memories of cheerleaders, football squads, basketball teams, track stars—memories together with a willingness to go forth with a purpose and never forgetting our motto—“THE HORIZON IS LIMITLESS.” Prophecy I was visiting in Bayard last week and while 1 was there the Barnum, Bailey, and Elder Circus came to town. The name Elder rang a bell in my mind so 1 went to the circus to see if it was the same Elder that had been president of the Class of 1956. It was. DENNY ELDER is part owner of the circus hut as a side line he is Professor of Engineering at the California Poly technical Institute. I asked Denny if he had seen any of our classmates in his travels around the country. It was really surprising to learn that in almost every state the circus visited, some member of our class came to see it. In fact LORETTA ASHBY is the star bareback rider for that very circus. In California RODNEY BROWN, who is a happily married geologist, brought his wife to see the circus. JOHN SCHWARTZ is still a bachelor, however he has done quite well for himself. He is the Senior President of the North American Airplane Factory in Los Angeles. JOSEPHINE PIEPER is head nurse at the naval hospital in San Francisco. JO ANN KRAUS is a woman jungle guide. She is conducting tours through Disneyland Park. RONNIE SCHOENE-MAN is the owner of a pet shop in Hollywood and is selling white mice to the movie stars. In Washington LUCILLE LOPEZ came to see the circus. Lucille is a secretary in a hospital in Spokane. Part of her job is to file birth certificates. ERLA STEWART has a designing studio in Florida. She is designing new variations for the Bikini bathing suit, and JOYCE MILLER is modeling them. BEVERLY LITTLE is a swimming instructor in an old peoples home. She is teaching them how to swim in the ocean. JACK HUDDLESTON is a prominent financier in New York. DICK McCUNE. BOB LIBSACK, and BYRON McGINLEY are the executive officers of the “We Make ’um. You Puff ’um Co.” Their motto is: “We roll our own.” DOROTHY REIN is New York’s chief lingerie model. GERRY MICHAEL is the owner of a chain of grocery stores. His head office is in Denver, Colorado. JOYCE SCHWARTZ has a beauty salon in the Cosmopolitan Hotel in that city. DARLENE RUSCH is raising funds for her Old Maids Home in a remote part of Colorado. MARLENE BANGERT is still in Kentucky trying to figure out a way to break into the Fort Knox treasury. RONNIE GUARD is an old army man raising seven army brats. Ronnie is stationed in El Paso. Texas. VERN COOLIDGE is a retired oil executive in Tyler, Texas. The biggest majority of the class stayed in Nebraska and they all came to the circus the day it was in Nebraska. DON SHAW is head coach at the University of Bayard. RONNIE HESSELTINE is head coach at the University of McGrew. The two schools are bitter rivals and have been since the middle of the nineteen hundreds. MOLLY KILDOW is chief director of a bachelor’s home in South Bayard and EILEEN EIRICH is the telephone operator in Molly’s home. HARLENE HEINTZ is keeping the Hardt Fund going. JANE NUSS is her campaign manager. (Contributions may be sent to The Hardt Fund, Gering, Nebraska.! MILDRED CROSS is having six of one, half a dozen of the other. NORMA HIEGEL is busy raising her seventeen kids on a ranch at South Bayard. LARRY HILL owns a fifty-story drugstore in McGrew and is still building to it. He is being financed by LARRY SCHAFFER who is a banker in that metropolis. MARGE YEKEL was passing through Bayard on her way to Paris. She is a rich newspaper correspondent traveling all over the world. MARGE SMITH just returned from her second honeymoon in Hawaii with her husband. She reported seeing SALLY KIDD who is a nurse in a hospital in Hawaii. JEAN CHAPMAN is working as a bookkeeper in Nielsen’s Department Store in Reddington. PAT MUES is the certified accountant who audits Jean’s books. DICK Mac DONALD is the, new owner of the Ford garage and is working on his first million. TED DUNDER is a bellboy at the fabulous Angora Hotel. JOYCE JOHNSON is digging ditches behind the hotel to bury her wealth in. VIRGINIA BAUER is teaching in the University of Bayard and raising her seven little Steinys to be school teachers. Virginia had a letter from DONNA SCHNEIDER. Donna is doing very well teaching English at the South Pole. JACK HUCK is carrying water for the Phillip 66’ers and working for JOHN PIEPER. John has finished college and is operating a successful farm. The circus ended with a bang-up reunion of the members of the Class of 1956 that had attended the circus. It was a joyous occasion for all concerned. Meeting old friends after so many years brought back treasured memories. During the discussion it was decided that the next time the Barnum, Bailey, and Elder Circus came to town the whole class of 1956 would be there to renew old friendships. So it was with joy we all started home, looking forward to the next performance of the Barnum. Bailey, and Elder Circus in Bayard, Nebraska. Setu i Ttcyfo 'Pfiovide 'pan. Senior Class.
