As we walk through the building, reminiscing the school year 1953-54, we are ever mindful of those who have'guided us, proded us, corrected us, and tried to make us learn—our teachers. Mr. Trout, our principal, algebra and physical science teacher, always a helping hand and a smile; Mr. Butts, band and eighth grade science teacher, and Dragnet;” Mr. Reichel, football and track coach, geography and shop teacher, who coached us to Panhandle B championship; Mrs. Mead, junior high teacher, poised and very nice; Mr. Knepper, vocal music, dramatics and Spanish teacher, keeping in shape, both voice and body; Miss Barditzky, English teacher and librarian, quiet and pretty; Mrs. Cunningham, English teacher, giving help to those who need it; Mr. Guy, assistant coach, physical education and biology teacher, not much to say but when he says it, it's worth your time to listen. Mr. Maurer, commercial teacher, doing two jobs at once; Mrs. Seibenaler, home economics and girls' physical education teacher, when its goodies we want, we see her; Mrs. Comstock, proper and full of sound advice; Mr. James, vocational agriculture teacher, quiet and stern; Mr. Reed, social science teacher, trying to make us think for ourselves; and Mr. Seymour, basketball coach and math teacher, tall, young and a newlywed. SENIORS CLASS HISTORY On September 2, 1941, the Class of 1954 started its school days in North Ward. Eight of the graduating class were present. They were Jack Benton, Carol Bowden, Don Colla-morc, Jeanette Green, Gloria Schaffer, Betty Shultz and Barbara Splittgerber. Our days were filled with play days, class picnics, and plays. In the fourth grade we had a Thanksgiving dinner. The big events in the sixth grade were a class dinner and a visit to the Freedom Train. In 1948 we moved to the High School Building. As seventh graders we held a box social. We filled our time with studying and activities. While in the eighth grade we took part in the first Junior High Operetta, The Galloping Ghost.’’ Our parties were a Hobo Party and a class dinner and a dance which was held on Saint Patrick's Day. Under the supervision of Mrs. Hendrickson we conducted our promotion exercises. We were joined by twenty-seven new freshmen to make a total of seventy in our first year of high school. Our officers were Jack Reifschneider, President; Ralph Langhofer, Vice President; Betty Shultz, Secretary; and Mary Ann Schaffer, Treasurer. Our class parents were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Reifschneider, Jr., and our class sponsor was Mr. Gaha-gen. We decorated the gymnasium with stars for our class party on January 19, 1950. There were sixty-three sophomores to start our second year in Bayard High. Beverly Willey was our class President; Betty Lou Speer, Vice President; Doris Hood, Secretary; and Dick Marker, Treasurer. Our class sponsor was Mr. Vinnola. The class parents for the next three years were Mr. and Mrs. Jake Huck. We gave a very profitable carnival and an April Showers Party.’’ As Juniors we elected Don Michal, President; Marvin Martin, Vice President; Janice Krueger, Secretary; and Don Baird, Treasurer. Our sponsors were Mrs. Mowry and Mr. Vinnola. Junior activities included selling magazines, license plate tags and ordering our class rings. Our class play was Ask Me Another. The theme for Junior-Senior Prom was Southern Plantations” and was held in the old gym on May 8th. We reached our goal of thirteen years of schooling. Officers for our senior year were Robert Bond, President; Jack Reifschneider, Vice President; Maureen Walker, Secretary; and Ralph Langhofer, Treasurer. Our sponsors were Miss Barditzky and Mr. Maurer. Our biggest job was the publishing of the 1954 TIGER. Our class colors were blue and white, and our class flower was the white rose. We are still looking forward to our senior class play, graduation, and the Prom. With these memories we will cherish our four years’ experience in Bayard High School. Elected honorary grid pilots of the 1953 Tigers were Dick Leever, senior tackle, and Dick Huck, senior halfback. Among the twenty-five boys, who earned their football monograms were eight seniors, who terminated their high school football career with this year's campaign. They were: Dick Huck, Dick Langhofer, Dick Leever, Don Michal, Ralph Langhofer, Jack Reifschneider, Bob Krantz, and Dick Reifschneider. Guiding the fortune of the Tigers” was head coach Henry Reichel, Jr., in his fourth year as B.H.S mentor. Assisting him at the helm were coaches Burnell Guy and Dale Seymour, both newcomers to the Tigers staff. The high ideals and character of these three men were a source of inspiration, not only to the members of the football team, but to the entire school as well. BOB KRANTZ Guard LEONARD WEBER End JOHN SCHWARTZ End RONNIE SCHWINDT-Back The Bayard Tigers being undefeated during the 1953 season and winning the Panhandle B” Conference Champions was rated 10th in the Class B” State ratings. The Tigers have been undefeated in 14 games on their home field, a record that will be hard to beat, but a challenge to next year's Tiger team. VARSITY First row: R. Huck, D. Langhofer, D. Elder, D.
