Chnl -Q! 48, 19 i:'1ea..,,..z W ,s x1i.3.gj-5. Desire Pays Off Football Coaches: Mr. Elich, Mr. Zanotelli, Mr. O'Hearn. Viewifes Witness Exciting Season The Bay View gridders, guided by an excellent coaching staff and encouraged by solid student backing, won four of eight games to insure themselves of a very respectable fourth place in the City Conference. The T967 season began on a sour note as North's Blue Devils defeated Bay View 26-O. This can be accounted for by the fact that the gridders were still adiusting to a new offensive system installed by Coach Elich. The following week the Redcats scored their first victory by completely overpowering the Juneau Pioneers 26-6. For the Homecoming game the Redcats were pitted against a strong rival in Hamilton. The squads spirit was soaring as the whole school was cheering them on. Early fumbles, due largely to nervous- ness, helped Hamilton to a 21-O lead which they never relinquished. ln the next two games, Coach Elich inspired his players to decisive victories over Lincoln, 63-0, and West, 26-0. ln these games, the Viewites, lead by Jerry Lemanski, Frank Jager, and Tom Junemann, displayed superb performances on both offense and defense. The following week the Redcats suffered a 7-6 setback at the hands of arch-rival Pulaski in a real heartbreaker that ended with the Redcats on the Pulaski one-yard line. The following Saturday the Viewites met the number one team in the State, Boys' Tech. Although defeated 40-6, the Redcats never gave up while playing a much better game than is indicated by the score. The season ended on a bright note as the team routed South Division T5-O, This game marked the third shut-out in eight games for the superior Bay View defense which ended the season number one in the city in total defense. Post-season activities saw Jerry Lemanski named to both Milwaukee All-City teams as well as being named to the second string All-State team. Frank Jager also received recognition as second string All-City fullback. This season was filled with thrills and excitement from the opening whistle in September to the final gun on November 4. The team fought valiantly through all types of weather as well as against tough opponents. While they didn't always emerge victorious, they proved to be one of the most highly spirited teams in the Conference. T3
