She said, I help them to change from students to adults and enter an adult world where they must assume adult responsibilities. Her duties included assisting with the commencement exercises, visiting the grade schools, meeting incoming fresh- men, and conducting interviews with parents. MISS STEEL, Class Counselor Helping the freshmen adjust to their new surround- ings at Bay View was the responsibility of Mr. Suttle, freshman counselor this year. Mr. Suttle said, We aimed to help them achieve a feeling of belonging, adapt themselves to a large group, and become part of the school as a whole. N23 MR. KOCH, Class Counselor MR. WILLIAMS, Vocational Counselor MR. SUTTLE, Class Counselor Helping the juniors to become more aware of their capabilities, solidify their interests, and plan more specifically for their future was the task of Mr. Koch, counselor of the juniors. His purpose was to give necessary personal guidance aimed at the develop- ment of a more mature individual who soon will be taking his place as a citizen of the community. Mr. Williams, vocational guidance counselor, or- ganized the group guidance materials used in the school and distributed these to the homeroom teach- ers. He is in charge of job placement and of making contacts with business concerns. ln addition, he arranges for speakers to come to Bay View for vo- cational guidance meetings. Page Twenty nine

The check of absences and absentees daily from Mr. Dondlinger's ofiice and control of problem behavior helped keep Bay View at peak performance all year. The school has had the best attendance record in the city for ten years. Mr. Dondlinger also assists in the orientation of new teachers. MR. DONDLINGER, Vice-Principal Mr. Wiley, chairman of the counselors, was a busy man all year. He was in charge ofthe many tests given to the school and was the counselor for members of the senior classes when they became candidates for graduation. In addition, he made the original contacts with MV the grade schools and administered ability tests. MR. WILEY, Counselor Chairman COUNSELORS Guide and H elp l 1 if Sv Miss Statz, sophomore counselor this year, helped the second-year students, who might have become a little over-confident, settle down to get the most of their high school ca- reers. Among the commit- tees that played important roles are the Central Study-Hall Committee, the Public Relations Committee, and the Honor Com- mittee, all ot which ioined in a campaign to encourage students to meet the chal- lenge of honor, particularly in the study halls and the senior classes. Some S. G. A. firsts for this year de- serve special emphasis: both inaugurals were addressed by United States Senators, namely Senators Wiley and Proxmire, an all-school election was held in December to fill the vacated positions of President and First Vice-President, the Auto-Registration Committee joined the Milwaukee Police Department in conducting a safety check, and a service organization for senior girls outstanding in leadership, scholarship, and integrity was introduced.
