Neither fire nor disorder of remodeling was allowed to obstruct the usual run of classes during this school year or curtail the full program of activities and school events planned for Bay View. Fire destroyed the stage early in October, but the play went on, construction work continued after the opening of school in September, but classes and study groups shifted to new quarters and carried on their work without interruption. With a little ingenuity and considerable effort, adminstra- tion, teachers, engineers, and students overcame each diffi- culty as it caime up. While desks and flooring and the finishing touches of paint were being added to West Study Hall, the cafeteria became headquarters for six homeroom groups and served as study hall for a number of periods during the day. When lockers seemed useless without keys and the completed numbering system, padlocks came into fashion to guard wraps and books. And when Bay View's own stage was not ready for the school play or the music festival, art crew, stage crew, performers, and directors traveled to Pulaski High School to paint scenery, place stage settings, and present first rate dramatic and musical productions. Co-operation and extra effort on the part of faculty, stu- dents, and engineering staff turned seemingly difficult tasks to high accomplishment. The year 1958-'59 will count among the many great years in the history of Bay View High School.
