S. G. A. To Train for Adult Life . . . P1 1 STUDENT BOARD Carol Haissig, Richard Kiphart, James Miller, Thomas Zizic IPresidentJ, Theodore Olsen, Diane Polzin, John Schmuhl This year Bay View's Student Government Association and the Honor Committee estab- lished an honor system in the senior classes. As more students understand the responsibili- ties incumbent upon such a system, it is planned to extend it to other grade levels. Its primary aim is not the prevention of cheat- ing but the building of individual character. Stop! You're going up the down stairs was the new cry in '58. We mean, of course, the one-way traffic stairway plan, which was put into eftect at the beginning of the second semester to save time by avoiding congestion. Outstanding committees which have func- tioned this year include Central Study Hall, Building Control, Ring, Public Relations, and Dance, the last of which reached an all-time high in securing the attendance of over a thousand students for the Homecoming and Noel Nocturne dances, and over six hundred for Cupid's Capers. The iunior-senior semi- formal in May, Hawaiian Moonlight, was outstanding because of its tropical atmosphere and bold dashes of color. STUDENT COU RT E2 , I :K y. Plan His Studies and Career Each semester this Bay View graduate-to-be had the opportunity to see films in auditorium meetings planned for various grade levels- such films as Benefits of Looking Ahead, Belonging to Groups, Aptitudes and Occu- pations, How to Keep a Job. From time to time he attended career meet- ings at which representatives of various occu- pations - generally experts in their fields - discussed job qualifications, preparation, and opportunities. lf his plan was to work immedi- ately after high school, he was given guidance as to where he might go to apply for a job and how to apply. If his interest was college, he took the Merit Scholarship Examination and later the College Board Examination to de- termine his fitness for college. He conferred with representatives of various schools and, if he qualified, applied for scholarships with the assistance of counselors, and he had an oppor- tunity to visit on the campus of the college in which he was interested, to get first hand information.
