In this country, where educational opportunity for all the children of all the people has raised literacy to a higher standard than has been achieved in any other land, the schools need no apologist. Education here is evolutionary in nature, with new ideas, new concepts, new practices being introduced from year to year. There is nothing static about the American school. Better ways to bring learning to the young are always being sought and introduced. Symbolic of the ever-changing school scene is the televi- sion theme of this Oracle. Bay View is proud to have been selected as one of the schools participating in the nation- wide experiment sponsored by the Ford Foundation. But this experiment is only one of many being carried on in the school. There is no lock step in the curriculum here. Under a well- developed guidance system each student is placed according to his demonstrated ability, each is impressed with his own responsibility for learning. There is a broad curriculum-a curriculum designed to serve students of varying capacities and interests. Be it in the sciences, the humanities, the voca- tions, or the arts, there is something to interest and to chal- lenge the student. In each of these areas there are special classes which enable the student to develop his special skills to the extent of his capabilities. A dedicated faculty and a flexible curriculum make it possi- ble to serve effectively all of the children of all the people in the Bay View community. wf
