Administration The interest that Bay View has in its students begins while they are still enrolled as eighth graders in the public territorial schools from which they are soon to graduate. A high school counselor makes the first contact with these pupils when he visits each of the schools and administers a mathematics aptitude test to the prospective graduates. The results of this test are valuable later when the pupils are planning their high school courses. This initial visit is followed by another, at which the counselor, who will be responsible for these students the four years they are in high school, is accompanied by two graduates of the particular school who are still enrolled at Bay View. At this visit, the curricular and co-curricular offerings of Bay View are explained. Following this second visit, the eighth graders are invited to Bay View, where they are entertained in the auditorium and taken on a tour of the building. MR. WILEY, Counselor Chairman Page Twenty-eight MR. DONDLINGER, Vice-Principal Later, after the parents of these pupils have attended a meeting held for them at Bay View, the counselor again visits the elementary school. In consultation with the pupil, the eighth grade teacher, often the school principal, and usually the student's parents, the counselor helps the pupil plan the course he will follow all through high school. These plans are naturally subiect to change, but always these changes are considered with reference to the entire course the student has chosen. They are always approved by the parents and counselor. After students are enrolled at Bay View, they are assigned to homeroom teachers for the four years they are to remain in high school. To these teachers the students report twice daily, in the morning and again in the afternoon. To these teachers belongs the responsibility for the welfare of these pupils. In this they are assisted by the counselor, who brought the pupils into high school and will speed them on their way as graduates on their commencement night.

It is in the homeroom that guidance-educa- tional, social, and vocational - both individual and group, centers. This year, group guidance has been especially concerned with the educational and social guidance that is possible through the use of films, and vocational guidance that is possible through the use of group conferences and visitation. Throughout this semester, iuniors and seniors have visited colleges, hospitals, and industry. Many students took advantage of the spring vacation and Institute Day to make these trips. These trips have covered the entire field of iob opportunities in busi- ness and industry. As always, college representa- tives have visited Bay View to explain the offerings of each school to interested seniors. Field trips were arranged on Saturdays, by the Service League, for freshmen and sophomores. They were taken on a tour of the Milwaukee Journal and the Milwaukee County Airport.
