Almost weekly there have been invita- tions extended to students to visit col- leges, hospitals, and industry. These field trips are open to juniors and seniors. On Institute Day, May 6, approximately fifty Bay View seniors, in visits arranged by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, cov- ered the entire field of iob opportunities in business and industry. Some fifty girls, interested in nursing as a profession, made visits to the hospitals of their choice. Other field trips were arranged by the Service League for all freshmen and sophomores who were taken to see the Milwaukee Stadium, the Washington Park Zoo, the Municipal Airport, and the Botanical Gardens. ADMINISTRATION 'avi- MR. DONDLINGER, Vice-Principal After students are enrolled at Bay View they are entrusted to the direction of homeroom teachers. With these teach- ers, students begin every school day, and to them they return every night. All through the four years, their programs, their troubles, and their successes are the primary concern of the homeroom teacher. This year there has been an extensive vocational program at Bay View, com- munity wide in scope. Many who came to help in the program included gradu- ates now in the professions, parents of Bay View students, parents who are in business in the community, as well as people who came from outside the city, such as a master plumber from Beloit and the auto service supervisor for the entire state. There were some sixty guest speak- ers who came for the Wednesday after- noon programs and spoke to all inter- ested upperclassmen. Many of them, too, stayed long after the close of school to answer the questions of their audience. Page Twenty-eight Most of the students who enrolled as high school freshmen in January or Sep- tember, I950, were not newcomers en- tirely unfamiliar with Bay View. Many of them had seen copies of the Oracle newspaper and had made a trip as visi- tors to their chosen high school. And they had had, too, a more direct contact with the school. They had met the counselor who was to be their guide through the next four years and had planned with that counselor, with their eighth grade teacher and often with their parents, all meeting together, the course they were to follow through high school. The plans of eighth graders would naturally be sub- iect to many changes, but always those changes were considered with reference to the entire course the student chose to follow and always approved by parents and counselors. 1 l t 3 .-'X MR.
