MR. RAYMOND N. DONDLINGER, Vice-Principal The vice-principal at Bay View has two major respon- sibilities. It is his task to see that a careful check is kept on attendance so that the school population remains fairly stable and teachers have a chance to teach. His greater concern, however, is that students learn respect for the laws of the land and acquire the habit of regular school attendance. After an absence, each returning student pre- sents an excuse signed by his parents, and in all cases of repeated absence is assigned make-up periods until his work is completed. Bay View students come to realize very early in their career that no absence goes unnoted, and this year both the students and their parents have cooperated with the school in its efforts to cut down absenteeism. Page Twenty-eight MR. HARLEY B. WILEY, Counselor Chairman The guidance department hopes to help each student enrolled at Bay View fit his program to his individual need. To that end, the counselors, working with the home- room teachers, make contact with every student known to have difficulties keeping up to grade. Of course they have individual files for each student in their group, and are con- cerned about the adiustment of the gifted as well as that of the slow. This year they have brought to the attention of all graduating students in the upper percentile ranks the op- portunities for scholarships and part-time work at colleges. They help the student to fit into the Bay View pattern and to find his place either in college or in the business world.
