MRS SCHOOFS 335 Ilse Grundmann, Mildred Gray, Cora Gehrke, Thaddeus Gutowski, Carol Doepke Seated Mrs Schoofs On the morning of September 8, 1943, a group of wide-eyed freshmen entered for the first time the little homeroom around the corner, 335. Surrounded by the seven hills of Rome, ancient Latin proverbs, and a beautiful view of Montana Street from the pencil Sharpener, these freshmen found life infiuenced by the culture of the ancients not so bad after all. As freshmen they participated whole-heartedly in all school activities both scholastic and patriotic, starting when they were 9B's by volunteering for paper drive work. On the first day of their sophomore year, Mrs. Schoofs gave them a pep talk. It must have done some good, for as grown up sophomores and juniors they held the X Club plaque continuously. In their senior year, the outstanding events were the arrival of four returning veterans, a new window shade, a broken lock, and several visits from Kilroy. After making plans for a reunion in live years, they said Good Bye to 335, the little homeroom around the corner. Page One Hundred Sixty-Iwo
