In 1915 the lirst real newspaper, consisting of four eighteen-by-twelve- inch pages, was published. lt lived a glorious life until 1920, when a many-page magazine was issued. ln l93O the maga- zine was abandoned for the newspaper, our present Oracle. XYith the paper, a semi-annual literary supplement, Ihzfwz, was issued for three years, 1930. '3l, and '32, becoming a newspaper supplement during Christmas and Spring of ,33. '34, 135. and '36, The iirst Oraflrw' had many cartoons and Romxn Twlsml, H11-Vlifll'-V-V .llirllfulw tSeate4l5 headlines without variation of type. Gradually the editors Wn,m-:mf liwzus. .Al.v.vi.v1tm1 began to introduce changes in headlines to break-up the KHNNICTH ll-NRIMN. 511f'Xf'f'fl'fif'f1 -llflllirffw' pages. Today pictures are an important part in each issue Ihoxuiw XX'.xxuck, ll.v.vi.vmul and the editors have fifteen dinferent headlines on their set-up. Now let's look in on the first issue of last September. lt was a rather hectic one. for the wheels of any machine do not start quickly after a vacation. Donald Schmeehel, the editor, sketched his layouts while be was rushing back and forth to the printer. News editors Dolores Stintl and l,eora fiilder rounded up budding reporters, while Ted Gates, associate editor, did some wholesale headlining in the Oracle olitice. lfootball and Cross Country prospects kept sports editor lid Hutchens busy. to say nothing of the subscription campaigners who had the responsibility of putting over the drive for the newspaper. Life became an animated routine after that. with XYill you headline this? and ls there a tiirls' Club story around? and even XVhere is that box of fudge l brought? t'l'his last question was ale ways in vain.j An apparently endless cycle included listing stories on Tuesday, headlining and editing on Tluirsrlay and Friday, sending material to the printer on Saturday. reading galley proofs on Mon- day, planning layouts on 'l'hursday.
