lan ingfu1'wa1'5. G- A- FRITSCHE Looking forward with youth then, let us Prinripal all join in seeking to establish the truth which will enable future generations to fashion a world better than that past generations have made. Youth, inspired with lofty ideals, strengthened by a rational optimism, with faith in itself in spite of pre- vious obstacles, will establish an improved citizen- ship willing to accept the challenge of the morrow. Youth, eager for a chance, will seek to acquire the art of living rather than merely the technology of making a living. jLet the youth of the land then remember that the outcome depends upon them. Let them think straight and for themselves, receiving and passing on the great heritage of thought and achievement of the past, turning them to the improvement of the future. Let them, under the stimulating power of the success of the past, move forward with determination to aspire to greater heights, striving to achieve a higher excellence and a greater measure of the abundant life, ever willing to contribute to the welfare of humanity in the highest degree possible. Thus emerging from the present period of distress, refined by trials and misfortunes, may we behold a new era of social righteousness.

The The Needs nf Youth of ever-increasing m o d e r n civilization Q Q Q brings with it an almost end- less chain of rapid changes in our economic and social conditions. The rapidity of changes in occupa- tional trends is startlingg a new order has hardly begun, when it begins to change. New technological processes bring changes in occupation. We must meet these changes if we would survive. We owe it to our- selves to insure an economic security which con- tributes so much to our well-being and happiness. jThe school is the logical place for securing the initial ability to acquire the training necessary to meet the situation in the most acceptable Way. There must be adequate training in a number of basic fundamentals in order that the individual may acquire sufficient adaptabil- ity, flexibility, and versatility to make adjustments as needed. That is the best job-insurance conceivable. This training, supplemented by subsequent successful experiences, will fit him for whatever trends the occupation may take. Naturally, there is implied in this process of development a liberal measure of diligent application to work, the individual should seek the maximum outlet possible for his talents, whatever his level oftintelligence and ability may be. There always has been and ever will be a demand for persons with sound char- acter traits, disciplined minds, and trained skills who are willing to give their best efforts to a given task. jAnother factor for success in life is the ability to get along with other people. It is a prime consideration in leading to a proper social adjustment. A personality embodying all the well- known, standard virtues is entirely essential to an educa- tion for personal success as well as for the broader partici- pation in an intelligent citizenship dedicated to the ad- vancement of human welfare. While the human race has advanced to an unprecedented degree in the prac- tical sciences, the forward march in social progress has been relatively slow. To be sure, there has been some growth in the development of human rela- tions, but how woefully we are found wanting in reaching equitable social-economic goals. The world hopes and prays for the time when the existing ills of society at large may come to an end. The implication is that groups as well as individuals must co-operate with each other toward attaining universal un- derstanding, leading to the establishment of permanent social justice.
