November ll, l2, and i3 marlced the dates of the Senior Class Play. This year's play en' titled Star Light, Star Bright was a comedy involving a family with very complicated problems, Among these problems were a literary father vvhose vvriting never sold, a daughter who at sixteen was in love with love, a son who hated girls, a so- phisticated lady publisher, and a mother who tried to keep all her family intact, Mrs. Joan Duprey, whose bubbling personality gave a lift to tired, stage-struck seniors, di- rected the play. She was as- sisted by lvlr. Bill Richard. The cast and all concerned will long remember the hours spent in rehearsal, the study lnalls spent in learning lines instead of chemiS y, props that could not be found, and the general or- ganized confusion brought about by the production of a sehior class play. Studert and faculty critics all agreed that the play was light, fun, and eycellently directed and acted. Tre Senior Class, a c'ass ima initiated new tradi- tions at Eay l-ligh l VCbQl'Obf the year, started another new first by giving matinee perform- ances, sefvirg free refreshments during play intermissions, and provicing a band for intermis- sion music. -., lflx . flq L ,Q 'L PLAY 4:17 girl, rv gl l ff S 1 nn1L.'1- 4.-,-!-1 , . lf 4. Staurdcy, May 14th, from 9:00 to 12100 in the gym, the members at the class ushered in this tradition. This replaced the time-honored iunior-senior prom, which was always a dinner dance. Featuring Heavenly as their theme, the seniors walked through the pearly gates and danced under a ceiling of sparkling stars. With a backdrop depicting . stairway to the stars, the gym was transformed into a truly beautiti. ballroom. A fascinating entrance hall and a luxurious powder room completed the picture, For dancing the heav- enly music was provided by .lim Becker and his band. The exciting evening continued at the Lakewood Y.M.C.A. where a splash party was planned. A breakfast followed prepared by the fathers. All good things must end, so by 5130 the clean-up crew were back at the school dismantling their masterpiece. The main goal of the sophomore class this past year has been to become iuniors. This was accomplished by the ma- jority through a lot of hard work in their studies, Subiects, the like of which the Class of '62 had never encountered before, included geometry, biology, and Latin ll. ln geometry they learned all about squares, rectangles, circles, and angles. The sophomores saw, probably for the hrst time, the inside of a frog and a worm while dissecting those members of the animal kingdom in their first laboratory science, biology. Not only did these longesuffering members of the tenth grade translate Julius Caesar from the Latin, but they also read the play, Julius Caesar, by Shakespeare in their English Il classes. Another first-time experience for them was the read- ing of many short stories. Then, of course, came the inevitable writing of their own carefully executed short story. But even with all this studying, the sophomores managed to have time for extra-curricular activities, too. A number of the boys made the football squads, varsity and iunior var- sity, or the .l-V basketball team. About twenty of the girls tried out for the coveted position of cheerleader, The three who made cheering are anxious for next year to come so they can cheer their fellas on to victory. Many sophomores made choir this year, perhaps as the result of valuable experience gained in their freshman presentation of l-l.M.S, Pinaforef' and therefore shared in the unusual Christmas concert, This year has been a wonderful one for the Class of '62, one that will always be remembered. Allen Charlotte Weber Richard Weygandt SUPERINTENDENT To head the administration of our Bay Village School system is a very difficult task. The teachers and students of Bay High can all agree that Mr. C. M. Patterson has ably filled this post. Mr. Pat- terson, who received his A.B. degree from James Milliken Uni- versity and his M.A. from Ohio State University, has served as our superintendent for the past ten years. During this time he has planned for new schools in our growing community, selected new teachers, and helped to maintain our high standards in Bay. Throughout the school year he finds time in his busy schedule to attend Bay High activities, such as the National Honor Society assembly, Leaders' Night, and the Awards assembly. Students have found him to be an understanding friend, ready to give his advice on any problem in school life that may arise. BOARD OF EDUCATION When the voters of Bay Village elect members to the Bay Village Board of Education, they are electing people to a very important job, for it is this body of civic minded citizens that sees that our school year is run smoothly. Among their tasks are the planning of new buildings and maintenance of the old, the selecting and hiring of teachers, the handling of school finances, and the determining of the educa- tional policies to be followed in all our schools, A vote of thanks is certainly to be extended to our School Board members who helped to make l96O another successful school year. PARENT TEACHERS ASSOCIATION An integral part of Bay High's communication system is the P.T.A. The diligent officers of this group serve as a two-way radio between the school and the pa- rents. They represent the views of both, act as in- terpretors, present planned programs destined to enlighten and educate, and take action locally and nationally for the betterment of school conditions. Above and beyond the call of duty they raise funds for scholarships, send out important bulletins, and keep a weather eye on changing conditions in the world of education. This year the council worked under the direction of Lou Ebersald, Student Council president, and Mr. Martin Klimko, faculty adviser. After much thought and plan- ning, the Safety Council was established with the help of Judie Moyer and John Wills. A set of safety rules were issued, and several car checks were held. The text of the constitution was revised by Barb Bate and her committee. Useless clauses were taken out, and class representation was changed from three per class to one member per homeroom, The big problem concerning the monitor sys- tem was tackled by Bonnie Borges and her committee. Open meetings were held to give the student body an opportunity to express their own opinions and to give their ideas on this important subiect. A Building Grounds Committee was estab- lished with Jim Templeman in charge. They worked out a new stairway plan and sponsored the Clean Up Campaign. A very successful Leader's Night was spon- sored by the council. Barb Bate was in charge of all the planning and setting up. Mr. Edward Finnigan, head football coach at Western Reserve, was the guest speaker. This year, during the United Ap- peal drive, it was equally true. Enthusiasm and hard work by the United Appeal com- mittee helped to make this year's campaign a great success. Committee members were selected at the beginning of the school year, so planning for the drive began long before the start of the campaign. As before, one representative from each homeroom was chosen to ac- company a tour which visited many of the places supported by the United Appeal. Some of the ine reports given helped to in- crease contributions. Entertainment always helps to raise more contributions, and this year the committee was successful in adding some to the agenda. The type of entertainment - a talent show. Various talents were displayed, and were eniayed by all. The program was terminated with a speech by Barb Bate. Barb was chosen to represent Cleveland during the drive and made many speeches throughout the city, Barb, the United Ap- peal committee headed by Gayle Cain, and the student body are to be commended on their fine work in making this one of our best drives. 9 Lv .3 pa Y S 's.,,N'-. c L ,- lg,.l .Q,'I 03,01 Ogg' Ol MARCH OF COINS Under the direction of the Sophomore Y-Teens and their adviser, Miss Janet Mec- hem, Bay High students gave nearly Sl,5OO tothe March of Coins, This drive was formed largely as a result of the first semester United Appeal fund came paign. Oh, l for ot!! 9 112 BAY BLUE BOOK The click ot typevvriters, the many meetings, and volumes ot Ulm and tlashbulbs make up the daily scene in the annual room. Editors, writers, and photographers strive to meet ever-present deadlines and masterfully pro- duce a publication suited to every mood. Bay l-ligh's annual provides a visual history of the year by recording student lite, new developments, and school events. In exist- ence since i925, it has been greatly im- proved from the first publication. A successful yearbook is a combination ot pictures and words united by a central idea and presented with feeling and imagination. The editorial staff strives to make the Blue Book a record ot the year, a good refer- ence book, and a public relations medium in the school. Editors alone do not make a book. Many hands contribute to its making - typists, re- porters, artists, photographers, layout edi- tors, and salesmen - all play an important part. This year's staff has done a commendable iob in trying to make this annual an inside picture ot Bay High. STAFF Adviser ......... ........ M rs. Louise Manke Business Adviser ..,.... This organization accomplished this excellent spirit in many ways. With the hall signs and lapel tags, Pep Club got right to the heart of the student body. Many probably noticed the new block section started this year. Pep Club was also influential in arranging pep assemblies for the iunior high grades during football and basketball seasons. Also during football season, Pep Club was responsible for deco- rating the goal posts. The club erected the giant Welcome Alumni sign for Homecoming, which cer- tainly made the alumni feel at home. Baseball and track were not neglected either. Pep club printed schedules and arranged car pools for these spring sports. A dance in the Bay Way and a spring picnic were other Pep Club functions this year. With Suzi Snider presiding over the club, it has had a very suc- cessful year. Ben- 'Q' vw' CHOIR 1960 Q' 1 O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A! Cklahoma, Yeowll The Bay High choir, under the direction of Mr. Curt Crews, enioyed a spectacularly successful season. Christmas spirit was heralded in by the breath-taking Singing Christmas Tree. The tree itself is an example of the Christmas spirit, the huge steel structure was donated by the Daniel- son family. The present standing beneath it, a beautiful grand piano, was the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Kolinski. The free mid-winter concert contained many sacred and secular pieces and the important an- ? fx nourcement of the birth of the Crews' first son. This year all Bay choir entrants in the district and state solo and ensemble contest received superior ratings. Competition was keen during tryouts for the choir production of Rodgers and Harrmers'ein's Okla- , homo. The finished product, performed in the 3 theatre-in-the-round, was a howling success, and crowned the finest year in Bay High choir history! C ROW ONE A E. Englehczrt, L.
