The MIGHTY B served well her country with Task Force 77, shore bombarding along the east coast of northern Korea, and patrolling the Formosa Straits. The BAUSELL visited many places and viewed many sights which the crew will not soon forget. It is with this book that we can again in future years relive this cruise.

HISTORY The U.S.S. BAUSELL (DD 845) was launched on Mon- day, November 19, 1945, at Bath, Maine. She was named in honor of Corporal Lewis K. Bausell, U.S.M.C., who was awarded the CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR by a citation that read in part as follows: For conspi- cuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his own life, Corporal Bausell led the charge forward against a hostile pillbox, and swift to act as a Japanese grenade was hurled into their midst, Corporal Bausell threw himself on the deadly weapon, taking the full blast of the explosion and sacrificing his own life to save his men. The U.S.S. BAUSELL, was commissioned on February 7, 1946, at the U.S. Naval Shipyard, Boston, Massachu- setts, and thus began officially her career in the naval service. In mid-July, 1946 the Bausell, passed through the Panama Canal and Navy Day found her lying in San Pedro Harbor, a proven member of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. On February 24, 1947, the Bausell was assigned to take part in her first full fledged fleet exercise. Darkened ship, rotating screens, condition watches, and the un- scheduled rescue of a downed PBM crew, was her initia- tion to combat conditions. April 1948 found the Bausell starting an e cruise to and in the western Pacific. Among ports of call were, Shanghai, Tsingtao, Hong Manila. She returned to San Diego in Nove after six months training entered Bremerton I yard for her second three month overhaul. November 1949, the Bausell left San Die second tour of duty in the Orient. After a cru the Philippine Islands, the Bausell spent Chri New Years in Subic Bay. In January, 1950 trouble on the Yangtz brought the Bausell to patrol duty along the CI In the spring of 1950 she was on her way t finish up her second tour of duty in the far The start of the Korean conflict found tl back in San Diego. In October, 1950 she ent Island Naval shipyard for a two months ov preparation for service with the United Natio February, 1951 the Bausell departed San Japan and duty in the Far East. The Bausel continuously as a member of fast carrier ta blockading on the east coast of Korea, and forces in the Formosa Straits.
