We, the Fricassee staff, feel a great satisfaction in presenting this yearbook to you. The pride that is our reward can be complemented only by your appreciation—if in the '62 Fricassee you can relive the joys, tensions and occasional tears of the year past—we will be rewarded. If this book is the key to unlock memories, to help you laugh, and share, and reminisce—we will be rewarded. 2 Zable of Contents 1. Foreword 2. Alma Mater 3. Administration 4. Features 5. Sports 6. We especially appreciate his unwavering attention to the football team. Dr. Gladney's little black bag has become a symbol of his unselfish dedication to BRHS. To be on this list is indeed a great honor and we take pleasure in presenting them to you in this special section of our yearbook. At the same time we would like to congratulate these students who have earned the high esteem of their teachers and who have contributed, each in his or her own way, to the welfare of BRHS, in order to make our school one of the best in these United States. Michel holds the attention of all. Many people are puzzled by the overwhelming number of female students of French this year, but we're not. We are fairly certain that this increase may be traced back to the continental attraction of our charming foreign exchange student, Michel Boulinguez. Michel came to Baton Rouge High as our fifth foreign exchange student, through the courtesy of the American Field Service. He is a member of the Key Club, Beta Club, Spanish Club, French Club, and of Junior Achievement. Michel has been an outstanding contribution to our school and also has played a large part in creating better international relations through understanding of two different cultures. We only hope Michel has enjoyed his stay with us as much as we have enjoyed having him. 48 B.R.H.S. The student body has enjoyed the movies which the operators have shown in the various classrooms. These boys have given generously of their time so that we all may benefit. Operators HALL MONITORS The Hall Monitors' main duty is to keep the halls clear of students during the lunch hour. This is necessary to allow the students in the classrooms to study without interruption. There we will find that through some strange quirk of fate, every one of the 1962 graduates of Baton Rouge High School have decided to establish residence on Moon. It is January of the year 1970. . . Let's look at a column in the Lunar Daily Planet.' This is your reporter bringing you a running commentary on the Moon's most exciting city, that sparkling metropolis, Lunarville, and its fascinating occupants. Lunarville has Dr. Elbert Ford to thank for its existence. This learned research physicist v ith his able assistants—chemist Billy Grady and electronics engineer Paul Lindsey, devised the first rocket with enough thrust to leave earth and reach the Moon. They were followed shortly afterward by Hamp White, newly elected mayor of the city and the new city council including Arthur Abercrombie, Bill Boisture, and Byron Stinson, who claimed Moon for the U.S. The next step was to build Lunarville. So the v orld famed architect, Carolyn Farrens Ballard, working with talented landscape designer Hollis Humphries sow her dream city come to life. Traffic engineer Benney LaCour Bagley then worked out the complicated overpass-underpass-overpass system for safe highways. Many establishments sprung into being shortly afterward. The experienced mechanical engineering firm of White, Miller, and Caracci saw a great future in the manufacture and sale of dragsters to teenagers on the Moon. Another worthy project to come to Lunarville was Girl Scouting—organized by Mary Francis Turk. Not to be outdone, Hugh Middleton, J. C. Gray, and Alvin May planned an Explorer post the following month. The Kiwanis Club has been granted a charter to operate on the Moon and locally John Vernon—President, along with Frank Roberts— Membership Chairman, havo a most successful service organization running. Making Moon musical are Nancy Shaw and Carol Bazelle with their famous school for the study of voice, besides the former Carol Kramer, who operates the Lotus Land Piano Studio. The educational system of Lunarville is one of the best in the universe, according to Superintendent of Schools, Mrs. Sandra White Celestin, who accredits this to her incomparable staff of teachers. Outstand- ing are Kay Nutt, Linda Avery, and Kathy MacNaugh-ton—teachers at Moonstone Elementary. At Lunarville University distinguished professors of learning include Dr. Rusty Harvey in Medicine, Dr. Janis Bleckley in German, and Dr. Beth Kinney in Business Administration. Coaching the winning teams here is a staff of former greats in football. Head coach is Dave Strange, line coach Stacy Moak, and backfield Pat Ryan. Just joining the pro ranks in football are William DeLage, Ernest Ray, and Tyre Glass. In basketball are Buzz Taylor, David Loudon, and Gilbert Griffith. A professional cheering organization has been formed to support the pro teams. Former great yellers in charge of administration are Chris Fugler, Mary Stephens, Alice Hart, and Gayle LeMoine. They are being coached by instructors Tricia Hadden and Emilie Steffek, who have been borrowed from Holler U. Moon branch. In the world of show business, Lunarville's great White Way is paved with such names as Ruthie Laney, the tragic heroine of My Desolate Lady, and Raymond Steiner in the role of a fortune hunter in Moving Beyond My Reach. Prima donna Alee FitzGerald is currently performing Verdi's Aida at the Opera House. Young Allyson Avondale, the former Ann Rollow, with Nab Gunther, the former Kent Furlow, are building up the greatest box office following since Connie Stevens and Troy Donahue in motion pictures. A clever comedy act currently sweeping Lunarville night spots is the team of Patton and Knurr. Their satire and subtle wit is wowing even those thorough critics, Mrs. Margaret Lay Smith and Mrs. Susan Freind Tyrone. In the world of art, Gayle Cutrer LeBlanc has her latest masterpiece displayed in the Louvre. Susan Crews is certainly making a name for herself in the field of portrait painting and has established a studio. The semi-finalists for the Mrs. Moon contest have been announced as Mrs. Loring Bacot Bendix, Mrs. Carol Lafeman Westinghouse, and Mrs. Judy Wirtz Dormeyer. Good luck to all of you! The Mr. Junior Achievement Award has been won by John Fountain, and Mr. Muscles of 1970 is Jamie Conner, who 188 is also a rising politician. Miss Personality, after a tremendous contest, is musical comedy star Rene Pol. An important election coming up on Moon is that of the governorship. Governor Amanda Roberts declined a second term to get married. On the Conservative ticket will be Mickey Hughes and Charlotte Lister Bronzewater. They are opposed by several Liberals from the northern U.S. Should be an interesting race. Foreign Service Officer Eileen Breton has been recently assigned to the Plutonian Embassy, while diplomatic adviser Toni Risley, sometimes known as Auntie, has received the rank of ambassador and goes to Saturn. In the overseas ranks also is Carolyn Medici, who is supervisor of the schools for the military abroad. In the Moon Series, Gary Aydell pitched his team to victory yesterday in an exciting shut-out game. The losing pitcher is Ed Jordan, who bounced back today to even up the Series. Any thoughts on the outcome?? Moon's Olympic golfers, Don Werner, Ronnie Melancon, and Al Michael took gold medals along with track stars Richard Eckman and Sid Cowart. Channel Swimmer Sammy Haase just swam the Sea of Tranquillity for his fourth straight record. Congratulations! Mrs. Ann Odom Jergens, Mrs. Jill Steigler Ponds, and Mrs. Mary Ann Mason Avon, energetic young society matrons, have organized a Good Guys Give campaign to assist missionary Doug Cadwallader in his fund raising junket across Moon. Helping also are Dr. Walter Girod, well known surgeon and his assistants. Nurse Carolann Bingham and Nurse Peggy Raiford. An interfaith council of universal churches will be held this year in Lunarville. Participating are Linda Hano—educational adviser, Bonnie Lee, retreat director, and Kay Thompson, social chairman. Professional scholars Ronnie Smith and Chuck Chatellier still study the mysteries of trigonometry as do Butch Kuhnert and Al Spain Problems of Democracy. Working on her doctorate degree is Linda Henderson, who is also the organizer of an outstanding orchestra with such greats as Tommy Clanton on drums, Dennis Merrill on clarinet. Tommy Miller on horn, and Harold Cowart on trumpet. The Homemakers Association announces its outstanding member of the year as Mrs. Kathy Kimball. Mother of the year has been chosen also. She is Margaret Duncan Moore. At the same time, this organization announces a tour by Betty Maggio through the entire universe, speaking on the topic, The Homemaker Today. She will be accompanied by noted lecturer Becky Sue Atkinson. The new editor-in-chief of the Lunar Daily Planet, Ann Moreau Timex, who plans an original format by naming to her all-girl staff Margaret Spurlock Westclox, Mary Lee Messali Bulova, and Barbara Beadle Longine. Pulitzer prize winner John Thibaut is writing a new novel in collaboration with syndicated columnist Joyce Collier on corruption of the inner press. Housewife-novelist Mrs. Beverly Dornier Hodge just finished her third humorous book, Please Refrain From Chewing at the Moonflowers. Poetess Shannon Coleclough has published a collection of love sonnets entitled Love is Supreme. Hunters Charles Beadles, Foster Bailey, and Sid Bowden have established a new record with the largest deer ever caught on moon—a reindeer named Rudolph with a shiny, rose-tinted nose. North Pole broke off diplomatic ties with moon recently. The reason is unknown. Attorney General Diana Dalton is looking into the matter. Socialites Dorothy Randall, Sandra Clegg, and Beverly Covington remain on the Best Dressed list of Moon. Interplanetary playboys, Bobby Landry and Edmund Spiller, have finally settled down (??!) in Lunarville. The Blue Moon Country Club announces its new officers for the coming year as follows: Mrs. Susan Wendler Max-Factor—Program Director, Mrs. Bettye Williams Revlon—Service Chairman, and Mrs. Pug McLavy Neufshafer—Membership Coordinator. Seen attending the annual Mathematics Reunion were Rebecca Vernon, Jack Ellis, and Nancy Tuttle. Across the street at the Liar's Club contest were funnymen Joe Reynolds, Tinker Baker, and Ricky Comeaux. Skin diver Reggie Keogh and special effects man John Schexnaydre, assisted by Thad Craig, have a ninety minute underwater spectacular planned starring Mary Elizabeth Hev es and Billy Albert. Photographer-camera man Jock Klock will cover the event for GalXC-TV. We'll be watching for it! So we see our friends on Moon are happy, prosperous, and a definite contribution to their community. But then, you didn't expect anything else.from the Class of '62. Did You??? 189 Our Qmtitude to COACH W. B.
